Unions

Bettering our education system is still one of the most important priorities of our country.  I think the teachers' unions should not place so much emphasis on tenure and concentrate on getting better teachers and raising their salaries.  I think that's most important.

Kirk education is everything but so is discipline and that needs to be taught it’s a great strength and should be taught way into Adulthood. It’s unfortunate that a lot of children do not have the opportunity of employment and the discipline that follows.
At the time I did not appreciate this, but the men that you worked for kept you in line and taught you great lessons of life. They were not Teachers. Take this influence away from young people and they head down the wrong road.

    Dear Little Issur,
Our educational system must go "electronic". A lap top for every student and "one-on-one" on-line tutors for the slower kids....Hmmmmm.....

As someone who has worked in the schools, I can say that today's kids are being taught to pass tests, as opposed to being given an education that will serve them for the rest of their lives. The priority should be shifted from the staff (teachers and administration) to the students...they will create the future, and we need to give them the tools to create a ~quality~ future.

I agree Mr. Douglas. I am a former teacher who became disgusted with the politics involved in teaching children. With constant cutbacks I ended up spending my own money to buy classroom supplies.

I also think it is wrong that they expect treachers to teach the way politicians feel is right, instead of teaching in a way that helps the children learn. I loved teaching because I wanted to help the children learn and succeed. I refused to teach in a way that only the brightest students could learn and the rest got 'left behind.'

That's true. Tenure seems to take away motivation from some teachers.

I agree Mr. Douglas. We are rated far behind a lot of counties. We need better teachers, a better education system. Our children are way behind other countries. Our High Schools are way behind the 8 ball. Not enough money. Our country needs to focus on here, and not over there. If you know what I mean. The very best to you sir. Richard and Suzi Pesicka.
