  • Bio

Born and raised in the redneck capital of Alberta, Canada, Bartholomew managed to defeat the odds, emerging uninfluenced by his hometown's country roots. Since birth, Bartholomew has been spoon fed a wide variety of tastes, all the while excelling in his piano education. His creativity was sparked near the end of Jr. High thanks to freeware recording software and like-minded friends, and so began the evolution of his songwriting abilities. Starting with just a low-end computer mic and no production skills, Bartholomew realized his passion for music, pursuing it and improving upon past projects until the present. With his grade ten piano exam and the stress of high school behind him, there is now time to develop his refreshingly distinctive sound in a new habitat: Montreal. Trained in acoustics, recording, mixing, production, mastering and the music business at an institute devoted to practical, hands-on learning, Bartholomew is ready to please the ear, using an effective mix of techniques and instruments to raise your eyebrow, and your quality of life.

Bio:

Infected:
This was a collaboration. Vocals and lyrics by Rob Jacobsen (by brother in law), guitar by Jordan Loehr, and drums by Eric Mueller. Synths and production by this guy right here (points to self).

Je Veux:
A song I wrote in French. Originally it was going to be a rap about the joys of being unemployed. Unfortunately when I started recording, I realized the rap didn't really flow with the music. Also I kind of got a job soon after. So it was going to be a cheesy love song. Then it ended up being about the fall of man. Oops. A little lyrical flip-flopping on my part. Written, sung, recorded and produced by DJ Davey Wavey. That's my DJ name by the way. UNCE UNCE UNCE UNCE UNCE...

Seven Sisters of Floating:
The full name of this song is actually 'The Windswept Sunrise of the Eternal Isles: Seven Sisters of Floating.' After production, I asked my friend Andrew (who's responsible for the guitar part as well as the musical idea) what we should call it. He sent me a list of possibilities and naturally I picked the most ridiculous one. Written mostly by Andrew McLaren, guitar by Andrew McLaren; accordion, piano, synth and production by a really pasty white kid.

Black Notes:
Instrumentals are hard to name, so I just named this one based on the main melody, which is played on all the black keys on the piano. It's one of few songs I've written where I created the melody before the chords. So interesting! Anyway, I had M.C. Laren's (Andrew's rapper name) help on this one too. Thanks bro' for the vocals and guitar. I won't thank myself for the rest because that would be redundant. I would just be appreciative of myself and we call that pride, which is the root of all evil.

Twin Kites:
This was actually a project for school. We did a novel study and I chose the book "The Kite Runner." So this one's about guilt because what's'is face couldn't forgive himself for not saying anything about his friend getting raped or whatever. For some reason my friends like this song.

Fantasy:
Electronica. It's in 11/16 time. It actually originated from Black Notes by using the same notes, except this time for the accompaniment! It was going to be longer too, but then I realized that the second part was uninspired and terrible. So I figured we'd go short and sweet. You might enjoy this song more if you imagine you're sprinting with endless energy through a fantastical, tropical rain forest from another planet. That's your best bet.

Glucose:
I think it's one of those songs you either love or hate. And I apologize if you're the latter. I pretty much just invented a simple, weird melody and varied the crap out of it with the cheesiest synth and fakest drums you've ever heard. Not gonna lie though, I love the chorded melody at the end.

Hgarjo:
I don't know... It was so long ago. I made a creepy pad sound and ran with it. Then I asked Jeremiah what I should call it and Hgarjo just rolls off the tongue so well. So there you go.

Mann:
This is a rap song my friends and I wrote as a tribute to our band teacher for our graduation. Hah... rap. There was a music video too, which can be found here. The video's pretty weak due to it being thrown together in a few hours due to time constraints due to lack of organization due to us being high school students. And random red flashes due to Brendan's camera's weird codec problems. Rapping rappers who rap: D-Short, M.C.Laren, and Brendan Hamman. I should probably get Brendan a rapper name.
