About me:
Entertainment insider, local promoter and movie producer Charles "Charlie Mack" Alston, joins forces with Philadelphia Music mogul Legend and Community Developer Kenny Gamble, and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson to increase the peace in the streets of Philadelphia with: "A Call To Action: 10,000 Men: It's A New Day in Philadelphia" on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 12:00 pm at the Liacouras Center, Broad Street & Cecil B.
Moore Avenues.

In partnership with a broad-based coalition of community,
government, professional and faith based organizations; the occasion marks the launch of a multifaceted strategy to engage African Americans and the community at large in reducing the out-of-control homicide rate in the city of Philadelphia.
Alston, who lost two brothers to senseless violence, and was himself shot yet survived, said this is about Black men taking responsibility to our seniors, our women and our children.
This is a proactive event created by Alston, as a direct response to the unending and escalating violence within the community. It represents the initial stage of an on-going commitment by the men of this city to "recognize the natural inclination of a man to protect and maintain the
welfare of women, children and seniors," said Kenny Gamble, "Our goal is to capture the spirit of the community, that's the only way we really get at the heart of the issue."
Trained facilitators will provide the men in attendance with the tools necessary to go into designated communities to deter unwanted and illegal behavior. Charlie Mack once was a negative element in his community, "I sold drugs, I helped create this problem in our neighborhoods - so I'm coming back to do something about it," Mack continued, "But I can't do it alone, I need the men in this city to step
up and be proactive." After completing the necessary training, these "PeaceKeepers" will help provide positive environments for the infusion and survival of social programs and doctrine beneficial to the community as a whole.
These men, working with the coalition of organizations will be empowered to take back their neighborhoods and help develop and implement comprehensive agenda for Philadelphia's African-American community. Police Commissioner Johnson agrees that a coalition is necessary, "the issue of violence in our community cannot be policed away, and it can't be arrested. We need a holistic approach and this initiative fits right in along those lines." The solutions developed will address both
socio-political and economic concerns while effectively changing the mind-set of the residents of Philadelphia and possibly serve as a template for the tri-state area as well as across the nation. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the official website www.10000menphilly.com or call the registration hotline at (215) 731-0541. Individuals can register on-line and pre-registration
is encouraged.
