Blurbs

About me:

I'm .lundi from Saitama, Japan, a 26 year old student. I'm a 162 centimeters tall small man, with brown eyes and brown hair.

I'm studying the history of modern Iran.
I'm a student of University of Tokyo, Faculty of Letters, History Division, Department of Oriental History. There fortunately I met many great pfrofessors of oriental studies and fellow students. The professors lecture on how to read historical sources written in Arabic, Persian or other languages, and how to read and write academic theses.
I'm studying the history of modern Iran, in particular the period of Iranian Constitutional Revolution(enqelab-e mashrutiyat-e Iran; 1905-1911). I want to know why various people in Iran took part in the Revolution, in other words, what did each class of people really want to fulfill. So I think it's important to study each class. A major accomplishment of the Revolution, 1st National Congress(majles-e shura-ye melli) consisted of six classes of people - in each region, each class had elected some people as representatives. Up to now, the Ulama(traditional Muslim scholar) class has been studied by many scholars, because some ulama wrote books, which can be the valuable historical sources to study. I focused on the (big) Merchant(tojjar) class, because most of them were educated enough to make many significant statements in the Congress. So I planned to pick up a representative from Merchant class and read his remarks in the minutes of the Congress. I selected Amin al-Zarb, who was a vice-chairman of the 1st Congress. He made many remarks in the Congress, which can be read in the minutes - unfortunately, the original minutes of the 1st Congress was burned and restored from newspapers and so on, so it hasn't remarks of original form, somewhat simplified. Be that as it may, I decided to read Amin al-Zarb's remarks in the Congress. He also left many papers, from letters to commercial documents, and autobiography, which ended with his childhood, unfortunately too. I want to read other papers, which has somewhat historical value, as many as possible.

I play the guitar for fun.
..

Who I'd like to meet:

People who love music. And people who use English, French, German, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Armenian, Hebrew, Latin, Greek, Sanskrit or Chinese, because I'm learning or interested in those languages. ..

Salaam! How are you doing? It's been a while since I last heard from you? How are your studies going? Mine are doing alright, I applied for an Erasmus grant, if everything goes alright, next year I'll be writing to you from Ankara! :D By the way, I bought a book of hindi and I started to learn it! The Devanagari script is not as difficult as the arabic one since it contains vowels, I started yesterday so I haven't gone very far with the grammar. I see you are interested in Sanskrit, have you attempted to learn it?

Khoda hafiz! :) Greetings from Madrid.

Thanks for the "Happy Norooz". It's sweet to hear that from a foreigner. Have a great Spring and enjoy the beauty of blooms.

In Spanish there is just one huge grammar of Turkish. I bought it in Turkey for 40€, because in Spain its price is 100€ !! On Osmanlica I think nothing has been written in Spanish as far as a I know, but I downloaded a Osmanlica-English dictionary from the internet and a grammar of Osmanlica, a very old one, I don't remember who the author was, though.

There aren't many people in Spain interested in Turkish or Turkey :-( And there aren't many books written in Spanish about the Ottoman Empire.

Merhaba! nasılsın? It's cool you know Persian. I always wanted to learn Persian but truth is, I haven't have the chance nor the time to devote myself to learn another language besides Turkish. I want to start osmanlıca ASAP! It's cool you know all those languages, they must be helping you checking sources for your thesis in different languages! Are there many people studying the ottoman empire in Japan?
  • Ren

    Jan 23 2008 3:48 PM

That is very impress,,ve. Turkish culture has had a very huge impact in İran's history I think. Many of the ruling dinasties, such as the sefevids, are rooted in the very same turkmen tribe as the ottomans! Although I heard that their impact was bigger in İndia and Pakistan (urdu shares a lot of grammatical features with turkish).

I'd like to study about Persia too. Many of the 'revolutions' that have taken places within the Islamic world come from Persia, such as the 'abbasi revolution'.

    What languages do you speak?

    Cheers!
  • Ren

    Jan 22 2008 1:55 PM

Yes, you are very lucky indeed! I've always been fascinated by Japan, because it is a true blend of the East and the West! I hope I can visit Japan :D.

How come you are interested in Iran Modern History? I mean, what made you chose Iran?

I started studying the Arab World, but while I was studying I came up with the time of the Turks rule of the Middle East, and I became fascinated by the Ottoman Empire, an Empire that is eastern and western and where many cultures met.

    Do you speak Persian? :D

    Görü,,ürüz!

    Hello!

I'm glad you added me, I'm very interested in eastern studies, although such studies do not exist in Spain :(. My target would be studying and writing about the Ottoman Empire :-).

Kendine çok iyi bak! I hope to hear more from you.
