We are the Drug!

A few months ago I got an email from a band member who liked RockTexas.Net.  He said, “I want to join your movement.”  At the time I thought his email was a little odd.  Since then, and as I’ve been recruiting bands and building momentum for the CD Project, I realized the words were, in a way, prophetic.

A group of bands, friends, and I ARE a starting a “movement.”  It begins with the release of “Out of the Shadows,” our compilation CD with Texas hometown bands.  From there it will grow and expand until we blow the lid off the rock and metal scene in Texas and spread the music all over the state far beyond the bars, pool halls and cafés where it lives now.  Don’t believe me?  Hide and watch!

I believe in this project.  Some of the greatest people in Texas are found in the rock and metal scene.  It’s time Texans recognized not just how much talent there is in it but how terrific the people are.  I’m on the road around Texas promoting, meeting bands, spreading the word.  I’ve already spent more than I’ll make from the project.  I’m away from my family a lot.  It’s all worth it, though, because we’re going to do what has never been done before!  “Out of the Shadows” is more than a cool CD name.

“We are the Drug.”  What does that mean?  It means our music is the answer, the elixir, to the angst and frustration many people in Texas are feeling.  People live on the edge these days.  Our music speaks to the heart and soul.  But you know that.  That’s why you do it.
