100% TENT AT BASINGSTOKE LIVE

This is a free festival in the centre of Basingstoke in the Memorial Park.

There is a main stage and 2 tents - one of them being - The 100% Tent.

1.00PM - FAKE THE ATTACK!

 

Since 2002, from the age of 11, Callum has been in various bands with regularly changing members. In 2005 James joined as the drummer and with a bass player the 3 piece band became 'Jaded'.

 

While on holiday in Cornwall in August 2006 and attending the Unleashed Festival at Watergate Bay, Callum, James and Guy decided to start a new band and with theaddition of Matt in September 2006 'Fake The Attack' was formed.

 

With a new enthusiasm for music and a desire to succeed, the band began writing songs and rehearsing. After a few live shows they began recording with Andy Jones as engineer and producer.

 

The 'Fake The Attack' myspace site has attracted considerable interest and the band are now working on new songs and ideas to promote themselves and their art.

 

The future for 'Fake The Attack' is looking good. With support and encouragement from the fans, the band are regularly playing live shows and continue to write new material.

1.55PM – BOYDIDGOOD

 

Boydidgood are a four piece band from Reading who formed shortly after leaving school. Less than 9 months later, the band had played their first London shows, headlining at prestigious venues The Hope & Anchor, Islington, The Dublin Castle, Camden & The Rhythm Factory, Whitechapel, continuing to go from strength to strength as a band.

 

Their following was getting bigger and more dedicated by the minute and some fantastic gigs led up to the band playing their first Birmingham show at The NEC Arena!! Playing the Kerrang Stage at The Clothes Show at the NEC and becoming Blah Blah magazine's featured band in Dec 07 proved that the band could more than dominate the big stage and they began looking forward to what 2008 would bring.

 

So far, 2008 has already seen the band complete their first studio recording, the Enemies & Friends EP. 250 copies of the EP were pressed and snapped up in little under a month to brilliant levels of critical and fan based acclaim. The track ‘You, Me & The Other Three' featured on the 100% Reading CD, making the cut above over a thousand songs and artists who had submitted their demos.

 

This tight Reading 4 piece have an incredible stage presence and amongst a

rapidly evolving national music scene which seems to recklessly embrace the

pretentious and churlishly alternative, Boydidgood stand out with a strikingly genuine and heartfelt belief in their music which they love to write, record and play. Of late, the band's sound has been likened to Arctic Monkeys, Biffy Clyro & Queens Of The Stone Age yet it would seem that they continue to surprise their regular audiences with every note and lyric they write.

2.50PM – THEE ELKS

 

A new duo from Reading in Berkshire, The Elks comprise Mark Lyons (ex Chuck) and Jason Aplin (ex Bennett).

 

With albums, NME, John Peel Sessions, nationwide tours and a stack of experience behind them – The Elks intend to bring a touch of humour to the festival along with lyrics drenched in irony and fabulous two part harmonies.

3.35PM – HELLO WEMBLEY

 

Scenesters, posers, try-hards and rock and roll frauds look out – there's a new band in town, with pretension in their sights and more than enough ammo to take it down.

 

Reading's pop chancers Hello Wembley aren't here to make friends. They're

controversial. They like to antagonise. They're a tongue-in-cheek riposte to the thin veneer of style that so many bands hide behind.

 

“When we started, the bands that were big were Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand – bands we thought that were style over substance,” says lead singer and lyricist Alex, “we realised there's a lot of people that don't really listen to bands, they just look at them. They like bands not for what they say or do or how good their music is. We're a bit of a backlash to that.”

 

They're the result of a mish-mash of influences, from Art Brut and the Sex Pistols to grime and keyboardist Mitchell's love of drum and bass and techno along with backing singer Debbie's funk background and drummer Nick's experience in a metal band.

 

There's just one rule: “When we write songs we want them to be danceable,” Alex declares, “we want it to be instant. We don't write song with long intro, outros or breakdowns. We want them to be concise, loud and direct. People have said we're Reading's answer to the Happy Mondays - a party band.”

4.30PM – THE BANDINIS

 

Formed in late 2005, The Bandinis play energetic post punk indie rock n roll songs about heartbreak and disappointment with upbeat tunes and catchy hooks. NME's James Jam referred to "Japanese Radio" as "the best song The Strokes never wrote", this prompted them to make an attempt at "breaking America" in May 2007 by playing one gig in New York. It might have worked if they hadn't been distracted by midgets dressed as superheroes and old Jewish men with stories of the war.

5.30PM – BAMBU

 

Bambu perform a high octane mix of new wave, power pop, motown and reggae music guaranteed to rock the tent and fill the dance floor !

 

New to 100% music - after watching the band *slay* the Light Lounge on their first birthday - fate has been kind with both a slot at the festival and the availability of the band (they rush to another gig after their set here).

 

Quality - fun - classic - covers. listen out for The Jam.. Arctic Monkeys and many more.

6.30PM – THE MARVELS

 

The Marvels formed in April 2006 after a bizarre orienteering accident led to a

heated discussion over who was the most talented member of Five Star. Six and a half hours later a bond had been formed that could not be broken.

 

Since then their sedated hyperactivity and vibrant tunerery has led to them being considered one of the top twenty live acts to have used the Popham services toilets. Miss them at your peril.

7.30PM – JUNKYARD SCIENTISTS

 

This Reading based seven piece band perform with
great energy on stage, their ambition and passion
for live performance shines through clearly. Highly
infectious, great music influenced by funk, soul and
hip hop, the ultimate floor filling equation.

 

Since hearing this band in December 2007 - the organiser of the 100% Tent has given them their first gig at 21 South Street in Reading (they headlined) - released a song on an album (100% Reading) - released their music on iTunes (Pullin' On My Strings) - organised 3 other gigs for them as headliners - been involved in them playing 2 festivals this year - along with tirelessly speaking about them to the press and radio.

There is no question that the support 100% Music gives to artists involved with them is second to none.

Some Like it Hot are a four piece band that play sing-a-long power pop with massive guitar hooks and infectious melodies. They will have the crowd singing their hearts out and dancing their asses off.

Kalimoto have finally completed work on their second album set for release this summer in the U.K. on their own label B3400 and in the U.S. on Souvenir Records.

 

With an altered line up (Dan Clarke on bass and legs) Kalimoto will be playing

some real songs to you live in the coming months.

 

Occasional support from

American anglophile duo "The Bleeker Folk".

2.30PM – THE RAZ BROTHERS

 

The Raz Brothers are Basingstoke's own loose groove collective, based around the nucleus of Raz Razzle and Arthur ASCII, long-time pseudonyms of the Basingstoke scene and veterans of such classic Bands as The Horizontal Bulgarians and The Seven Ages of Maaan.

 

The Raz Brothers floating line-up consists of fifteen musicians at the last count, although there are seldom more than seven or eight of them on stage for any one performance. Often featuring members of The Marvels and Fez Freakley's Jazz Bandidos and even the vocal talents of Ms Pussycat Johnson, the only predictable aspect of The Raz Brothers guitars-keys-percussion-horns-kitchen-sink melange is that a groovy time is guaranteed for all.

3.15PM – BUTTERFLIES ON STRINGS

 

Butterflies On Strings like to refer to themselves as 'post pop', but it's hard to tell if they are joking or not. They play an uplifting blend of indie-pop and electronica, with a bit of post rock thrown in for a bit of shameless self-indulgence.

 

Originally formed as a two piece in the summer of 2006, they have now grown to four members, and are all the better for it. They have one EP under their belt ('Close Your Eyes And Think Of Ben' is available via iTunes) produced by the wonderful Peter Miles, and are all set to hit venues all over the place in the warm months ahead.

4.00PM – TIM KAY

 

Recently signed to Rhino/Warner Records, things are looking up for this young singer/songwriter.

 

Heavily influenced by Jeff Buckley, Aqualung and Muse, Tim's melancholic yet simultaneously uplifting style was spotted by celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver. (Tim worked at Oliver's "Fifteen" restaurant in East London as a waiter, whilst gigging solo at many of London's live music hotspots)

 

His first single "My World" (available now) was subsequently chosen as the theme music for Channel 4's "Jamie At Home" series, which continues to be broadcast across the World.

 

The song was produced by Bafta Award winning producer Marius De Vries

(Madonna, Bjork, David Gray) and Jamie Oliver even did his bit by playing the drums!

4.45PM – THE PERISHERS

 

Former Basingstoke residents The Perishers return to play their first hometown gig for ten years.

 

After moving to London in 1997 The Perishers released two albums ('Hurts Like Hell' in 2004 & 'Teepee' in 2005) on Head Records and after a long period of song writing are currently preparing to record their third album in the autumn, which is likely to reflect their love of classic guitar pop in the mould of The Byrds, Teenage Fanclub & Ride.

The four of us have been writing and playing together for the better part of a year and a half. Its coming to a head now so we're committing it to tape - by ourselves, and maybe even for ourselves. GCEE is a solo act making catchy, infectious electronic music that has been noted as sounding like early Prodigy meets Gary Numan head on in a car crash. The two artists mentioned are infact influences on GCEE and although on paper it shouldn't work....it actually does!

 

We guarantee that GCEE will have you wiggling as soon as those big beats start thumping.

A multi-camera crew (there were 5) filmed the launch gigs for a DVD - they've got a lot of stuff to assemble, the DVD is due for release in June.

All of the sound (which was fantastic) was captured onto a digital extremo channel mixing thing - I'm listening to this next week - a live album for iTunes sounds good.
