DIY Mumming for the 21st Century...

Philadelphia's New Year's Day Parade is called the Mummers' Parade. Since the Dutch began to settle in this area in the 1600s, the Mummers, (Traditionally, but no longer exclusive to men) have dressed in elaborate dresses and costumes in celebration of the beginning of a new year. The Mummers are a local example of an ancient and widespread practice of designating New Year's Day as a kind of opposite day—men dress as women, and the poor dress like the rich and vice versa. One can, and does, get drunk and stay up all night any day of the year, but only on New Year's Day can he walk hand in hand with his plumber and his policeman down Broad Street dressed like a bedazzled Starfish.

This past New Year's Day, while trolling Two Street for the few Mummers we could find on a rained out parade day, our small group of friends envisioned that we might actually become mummers ourselves. With a little digging and perseverance we've discovered that this is an attainable goal, and we're determined to make it happen. Thanks to the hard work, creativity, and generous cooperation of Space 1026 and extended family, this dream has quickly become a reality.

Although being a Mummer is nearly free, materials for our float and costumes will likely cost several thousand dollars. With a little help from both new and old friends we hope to raise the necessary funds through a series of entertaining events over the course of this year. Our brigade, the Vaudevillains have been welcomed with open arms by South Philadelphia's Murray Comic Club, and we too welcome all those with the spirit of Mumming inside them to join us with any aspect of this process—great or small—and best of all, in the parade on New Year's Day!
Who I'd like to meet:
Wannabe Comics; Ambitious people, if your ambition is to create more fun time.

WHERE WE ARE NOW...
Stella & Dinah, huggin' up

Dear 1026 Mummers,

THE GRAND KILN is moving steadily forward. Slowly. Comfortably. ...but steadily. I like it. It's big, like a tree migration caught somehow using a stop motion camera...

I'm asking you, and a bunch of others, to look again at what we're doing, and think if there are two, three, four friends of yours who would get an enormous kick out of where this is all going... if they only knew. For fun, if you're of a mind to, forward our GRAND KILN page to them...

myspace.com/thegrandkiln

They don't have to be potters or ukelele players, but they should be those among your friends who possess that soul defining spark of a mischievous sprite...

Y'know... like that!

You mummers looked SO hot. Especially that Ben Halterman. His ass is so fine, I wanted to crawl inside with a flashlight and a good book.

appartment chicks don't tell the truth about what they think.
I am telling you this because it is the honest truth, look I should know, they say that it is all in the way you use it, not how big it is, well I got news for you all, that is pure lies.
I know from personal experience, I will tell you about a secret that torrey has made me promise to never ever tell anyone, but since he has not called me in three weeks after standing me up, I am going to break the promise and tell you how he went from having a tiny wang and in 4 months he is now about nine inches and get this, it is still getting bigger. He has been secretly taking grow jells from this site, copy and paste the address into your browser to see them.HANEBY.COM
I found out when I was at his house, three fridays ago, we were getting ready to go to the mall, so while he was in the shower, I went in his room, sneeked under his bed and found a box with jell bottles in it, there was like 9 full bottles and 4 empty ones, all ordered from HANEBY.COM I was laughing at first but then when he came in the room and caught me looking at them, he freaked out and made me sware to not ever tell anyone about them, especially girls from school or work that he has been dating for the past while, now that I think of it, he has been rather busy with all the popular girls around here, when just last year he was the shyest when it came to girls.
I just never put two and two together until he explained it all to me, I did see his package and yes, it is huge, pronostar huge, the thickest and longest one I ever seen.
I know this sounds really shallow, but I am considering ordering 6 bottles from the website at HANEBY.COM for you know who.. he does not have a myspace account, so he is not gonna see this. They guarentee that the jells will work on any man, or they give you your money back, living proof that they do work on any guy, seeing is believing.HANEBY.COM

house Females are good at keeping things to themselves,an the one thing they dont't let out is that if your package is not big it doesen't make a difference to them it's how you use it.You and i both know thats pure hogwash,my buddy jens that lives in palm beach where the sun and the women are hot.He told me about this stuff he got from jens.MABDO.COM its these little white things you take and in a short time it aint so short no more if you know what im saying.SO i went to jens.MABDO.COM to see for my self and got six bottles of the stuff.I told one of my best freinds what i got and he laughed at me but two months latter he was at jens.MABDO.COM himself,he saw i put on two and a half inches and my girl freind well thats another story.I went to visit my bro jens for spring break and i kid you not i had the time of my life.If i woulden't have went to jens.MABDO.COM for myself and saw what it did for me,i woulden't have beleaved it.Take it from me you have nothing to loose and inches to gain and when you visit jens.MABDO.COM they garentee it will work on eny man young or old or all your green back even the shiping so check it out you'll be glad you did.

May 19th will be the 2nd Annual Mummers Ride for the Cure. Registration starts at 10:00 at the Mummers Museum (2nd and Washington, Philadelphia, PA). The ride leaves from there, and ends at 2nd Street Annie's in North Wildwood, NJ (101 Olde New Jersey Avenue) where there will be food, drinks and a DJ playing.

Last year over $800 was raised ... not bad for the first time and on a rainy day, but we certainly know that we can do better.

Let any motorcycle riders you know of this worthy cause and help ride cancer off the map. Proceeds go to Alex's Lemonade Stand and toy donations will be gladly accepted. Check our blog ... more info will be posted as it becomes available.

From the February 28th edition of the City Paper, in A.D. Amorosi's column "Icepack":

► Does Mummer Jacky BamBam know about this? That Space 1026 last Saturday ran a hairy Dating Game/Kissing Booth fundraiser with Alison Macrina, Amanda Blank and Ryan Creed so to start their very own comic brigade? Does this mean they'll move to Two Street? And Speaking of 1026, have you checked their exhibit space/$1 shows at ICA with R5 Productions like last night's Sweatheart/Plastic Little jam? Why so cheap? "Since we're gay for one another — 1026 and R5 — it seemed like a perfect fit," says R5's Sean Agnew. "The $1 admission is so we can pay the bands a few dollars." Nice guy.

I AM FUCKING FAMOUS!
