Die Arbeiten von 102nd Century sind inspiriert von langen und ausgiebigen Technonächten in den späten Neunziger, z.B. im U60311 in Frankfurt.. Treibende Technogrooves bilden auch heute stets die solide Basis ihrer Tracks auch wenn das Tempo über die Jahre auf ein adäquates Level gesunken ist. Bewusst bewegt sich das Projekt ständig an aktuellen überproduzierten Retorten-Tracks vorbei. Die Musik von Nils und Jan sticht durch subtile, kopflastige und stimmungsvolle Sounds hervor, die von druckvollen Rhythmuselementen getragen werden. Gesamplete Elemte (wie z.B. das Klezmer Sample aus j-string) wechseln sich mit Synthesizerklängen ab. Funktionalität gepaart mit Sounddesign erzeugt eine tanzbare Musik mit einer skurrilen Emotionalität. Zusammen als Liveact oder Nils mit bei seinen extrem schweißtreibenden DJ Sets sieht man den Spaß an der Musik an. Diese Energie überträgt sich direkt auf den Tanzboden und wieder zurück.
Kurz vor Anbruch des aktuellen Jahrtausends legt sich Jan seinen ersten Sampler zu und zeitgleich beginnt Nils seine ersten Schallplatten zu mischen. Bald darauf treten beide auf Ihren ersten Partys auf und lernen sich kennen. Im Jahr 2002 kollaborieren sie erstmal als Partyveranstalter und etablieren mit einigen Freunden eine monatliche Technonacht im Gebers Kultur Cafe in der Nähe von Mainz. Getrieben durch ihr harmonisierendes Musikverständnis und den Drang eigene Stücke zu komponieren richten die Beiden 2003 ihr erstes spärliches Studio ein.
Neben dem gemeinsamen Produzieren wird ein gemeinsames Liveact Projekt ins Leben gerufen. Für diesen Act folgen Stationen wie der Brückenkopf in Mainz, Pulp Mansion Berlin, Waldschall Festival Thüringen oder der 311 club Frankfurt. Neben Live- und DJ-Auftritten gibt es seit 2008 auch Vinylreleases der Mainzer. Der Startschuss hierzu fiel auf dem Klassiker Overdrive aus Mainz. Danach ging es zu Komplex Audio mit einem Remix für Mandis und Durden und 2009 folgte die erste eigene EP auf Overdrive.

Mr. Technotika wird schon wieder ein Jahr älter und nachdem im letzten Jahr die Location aus allen Nähten geplatzt ist, feiern wir dieses Jahr richtig groß im Tanzhaus West auf zwei Floors. Kurz vor Weihnachten am 19ten Dezember geht es rund. Xtrem Steil heißt das Motto und genau so wird an dem Abend auch gefeiert! Genau da kommt ihr ins Spiel, ihr müsst die beste Feierlaune mitbringen, die ihr habt! Wir alle zusammen lassen es an dem Abend richtig krachen, damit Andre (Mr. Technotika) seinen Geburtstag nicht so schnell vergessen wird!

Some comments: Carsten Rausch: The Da Trash Remix is a cool piece of percussive Techno. I will definetely play that. Dave James: Yeh I like the original trippy vocals. Galuszka: Tantrum Light offers a track that is straight up techno. The mood of the original mix is very Terminator 2 (Judgment Day) in its vocal work and sound choice. The remixes of this project ad funk, especially the Da Trash remix with it's rolling quality. Bodgan Taran: I just love the melody on Zimaleto remix of LSD Island. The Reddman: I listened all the remixes and was very impressed! I have to say I just loved the Paul Hunter remix of the LSD Island track. There was something about it that just kept the groove going for me. Moog Conspiracy (Elektrotribe / Buena Onda): I ll play Tantrum light - Da Trash remix. Marc Fuccio (Fresh DJS): Favoutite mix is Paul Hunter remix. Wicked groove of a bass line that instantly got me to my feet. Great production and construction.
