Ty from Escaping the Ordinary is really on to something. Today is a GREAT day to be a fan of Texas music. Now, at long last, I have a Dead Twins cd on my shelf and another show branded into my brain.  Thanks for the great show, and congrats on the new CD.  Can't wait for the official downloads of your older stuff on amazon.com soon.

By the way, the comment made regarding my waiting for their album's release is meant as no disresoect to the band, for if nothing else, as a fan I've been only concerned. What with work, relationships, self-consciousness, a shit economy, and employment vs. unemployment. Hell, I'm no stranger to these issues...yes, even a bad case of relationship woes...and so on and so forth, and doubt that these blossoming gods of rock are either. In any event here we are, witnessing yet another amazing show put on by a band that, in my opinion, and probably in most of yours now, stands above the rest around town and beyond. Don't even get me started with anything mainstream.
It would seem to me that for any band that manages to stay afloat regardless of those real-life issues mentioned above as well as line-up changes, both additions and subtractions, and just about anything else that can plague a band, it makes their survival, and point of existence all the more valuable and meaningful. Its been an awesome set of experiences thus far to witness many of the bands on the local scene from their infantile days through to their days of blossoming heady rock goodness, and alongside my father to boot.
The cool thing about the Dead Twins has been watching them grow as a band, listening to their sound/songs evolve into these multi-layered sonic soundscapes, and the album seems to be a culmination of that evolution, dedication, and hard work. Gabe is the prime example of a dedicated/educated guitarist in that he seems to have a bond/kinship with his guitar that not many others have in that he knows just how to tweak, pluck, and tease the fretboard as well as the tonal knobs and whatnot to get the desired sounds and effects. The atmospheric/ambient sound is what helps give the Dead Twins a distinct flavor. It isn't only so much the lyrics that give the band their weight and dimension, but the ability to say all the more with their music alone. <bR

...and so here I am with a severe case of the sniffles...my body battered to a single lump-sum bruise of the common cold (or so I hope). There resonates from the stage a conglomeration of atmospheric, ambient 'indie' rock, and despite my aches and pains all is well. And no, I'm not here with a camera plastered to my face, taking shots of my friends or the cheer squad present (and a group up in my groin/face/mouth area by the way...for better or for worse)...remaining true and conclusive to the whole 'let's get belligerently drunk and all the more annoying!' nor am I here to dick my way into the arms of some wasted chick at that... and I feel it not at all necessary to fist pump and/or wave loud hands up into the band's faces. I know, I know, I have not an ounce of that "cool" stuff emanating from me even in the slightest trickle so fuck it if I know what sort of methodical wisp of idol worship all of those actions may equate out to. Perhaps Gabe will make it a point to high-five me after the show if I simply take the shot everyone is so intent on him drinking and just shut them up by throwing it at him, but FUCK IT!!! for tonight I am here for one reason, and that is simply to listen to good music at an amazing price. Fuck cheer leading squads, and more and more shots of whatever, and middle-aged men groping anything that looks pretty and squeaks belligerently.
I'm here because I'm a fan of good music and have been behind this band now for over a year. I've had the opportunity to see them at a few venues (including the Doublewide before), and having the chance to pick up their debut album tonight, that I've been waiting for for over year, makes it all the more worthwhile. SO, SNIFFLES BE DAMNED!!! DAMN YOU TO THE BACKSHELF! I WILL SMOKE MY BIDIS THAT LOOK SUSPICIOUSLY LIKE JOINTS (throwing most people off...haha!) HAVE A BEER AND ENJOY THE SHOW!!! &
