About me:
Note: I'm not using this account any more. Check out my MySpace Artist Profile here, or find me on Facebook for social networking.* * *
I am a film composer, which means that when a director says, "I would like the music in this scene to sound like Mahler meets The Cure meets Ugandan yodeling, but catchier," I'm the guy who must maintain a professional demeanor and nod knowingly. I spent a few of the crazier dot com years as a part-time software developer, splitting my time between Boston and Los Angeles, but eventually realized that this is more fun to describe than actually do. I have a fairly incoherent (I like to say "diverse") set of side interests, including epistemology, running, extremely amateur cartooning, songwriting, and being an occasional lecturer on film music and other questionable topics. I supplement my professional life with numerous other creative projects, and regard it as perfectly okay that I plan about ten times as many as ever get implemented.
Some samples of my work can be found on my professional web site, http://www.mikemusic.com/.
I like to think of myself as an enlightened nerd, meaning that I can quote passages from the Hitchhiker's Guide, but can feign a certain degree of social grace and maturity when required. My prized possessions are a full orchestral score of the Star Wars concert suite, my iPod, and a set of kazoos (solely for the reason that I was legally able to tax-deduct them). People say I am full of wit, intellectual sophistication, and joie de vivre, though bear in mind that I have secretly paid those people $5.
Who I'd like to meet:
I'm always up for meeting smart, creative, fun people. If those are unavailable, minions and fawning sycophants will do.Details
