.. .... ....KRIS DREVER.. Hails from Orkney and now lives in Edinburgh Scotland. Drever is a multi instrumentalist, songwriter and singer who following two low key releases with the Scottish group Fine Friday and one with Session A9, released his debut album .."Black Water".. for indie label Reveal Records (October 2006). ‘Black Water’ brought him to the attention of the ..BBC Folk Awards.. who honoured him with the Horizon Award for Best Newcomer and the album has since sold in excess of 10,000 copies in the UK alone. .."Black Water".. is a rich & astonishing journey, one through twisting lanes of traditional themes & acoustic music, the delicate & intricate arrangements enveloped by Kris’s voice (& packed with a sorrowful punch); the songs injected with honesty & heartfelt drama at every turn. The playing is quite simply off the page, yet joyfully melodic & simplistic. .... .. In 2007 Kris spent some time writing and recording with friends John McCusker and (Idlewild front man) Roddy Woomble.. the resulting album "Before The Ruin" later featured amongst Mojo Magazine's Best Folk Albums of 2008 after being released by Navigator in September 2008... .. Alongside a very busy release output, Kris has toured around the world pretty much non stop for the last four years, in various line ups or playing his solo material, in January 2008 he re-united with the guests from the "Black Water" sessions for a special one off concert with full band line up. The concert was filmed and released as the ‘LIVE’ DVD in August 2008. The film of the concert featured:.. Ian Carr, Roddy Woomble, Donald Shaw, John McCusker, Heidi Talbot, Andy Cutting, Ewen Vernal, Donald Hay, Karen Mathieson. .. In February 2009, Drever, McCusker, Woomble played a sold out, concert at London's 800 capacity Union Chapel - that performance also included musical friends Boo Hewerdine and the Irish singer Heidi Talbot (Kris duets with Heidi Talbot on "The Blackest Crow" from her "In Love & Light" album). Kris and Heidi also toured as an occasional duo in the last year, and Kris and banjo player Eamonn Coyne have also played occasional dates and released a Traditional album ( 2007's Compass album "Honk Toot Suite")..... .... Kris is also a founder member of the highly acclaimed and successful Scottish / English trio ..LAU, winners of the BBC Best Group Award (2008 & 2009)... Lau (Aidan O'Rourke, Martin Green & Kris Drever) have released three albums already and picked up a smattering of awards and nominations: "Lightweights & Gentlemen" (Reveal 2007), "Live" (Reveal /Navigator 2008) and "Arc Light" (Navigator 2009). The trio have appeared on BBC Television, and numerous Radio 2 shows including: Simon Mayo / Chris Evans / Bob Harris and Mike Harding. Lau are expected to release a new e.p in 2010, whilst Kris has the small matter of the official follow up to his "Black Water" planned to promote. There will once again be concerts featuring his solo material in 2010.. and in summer it is expected there will be special tour with giant of American roots music Tim O'Brien. In summer 2009 Kris Drever recorded his new (2nd) solo album "Mark The Hard Earth" with the same production team John McCusker and Andy Seward, he was joined in the studio by guest vocalist Heidi Talbot and Tim O'Brien flew over to collaborate on several songs. A mixture of contemporary and traditional songs "Mark The Hard Earth" will be released in spring 2010 on Navigator (CD/Digital) and Reveal (Vinyl). A limited number of copies of the album will be made available for Christmas 2009 and the album will be launched live at the Celtic Connections Festival in January 2010 where Kris plays a large concert featuring songs from the new album. ....... ....
