Bio
The piney woods of East Texas echoed the crunch of tires on gravel and the voices a tow-headed four year-old and Hank Williams singing, “Son of a gun we’ll have big fun . . . .” Joe Green was standing on the rear floorboard leaning over the front seat singing at the top of his voice with the radio of his family’s 1939 Chevy. The next morning he would be singing with no less reverence from a pew in Saratoga’s West End Baptist Church. That’s where his Daddy preached and his Mama played piano. While plowing, hauling rock, and working livestock on Grandma Green’s West Texas farm, the eleven year old borrowed and learned to play his Uncle Carroll’s 1927 Sears and Roebuck guitar. Two years later, in a junk store near Producers Livestock Auction in San Angelo, he spotted a handmade guitar priced to sell. Joe persuaded his Daddy to buy that one for his birthday. Then, in his fourteenth year, Joe Green discovered songwriting. Being the responsible sort, Joe went to school and completed a rewarding career as an educator. His second jobs included everything from cowboy and plowboy to mechanic and school bus driver. Though life has taken him down many other roads Joe has returned again and again to his first love of writing and performing his songs. One day when Joe was working on the Round E Ranch, an unknown blue healer showed up looking a little lost. Joe left a note at the general store in nearby Dundee, Texas. In a day or two, Buffalo Bob showed up to get his dog. Bob invited Joe to bring his guitar and his songs to a picking fish fry on a nearby ranch. One thing led to another, and pretty soon Joe was in music up to his ears. Ten Gallon Records released Joe's first all original CD, "Back to the Good Old Days", in May 2007. The album has hit the top ten on all the major cowboy and western music charts in 2007 and 2008. Joe hit the road in support of the album touring fulltime from Texas to Kansas and Arizona to Tennessee. Ten Gallon Records released Joe's second CD, "Texas Original - Live" in October 2008. Recorded live before a studio audience, the album is getting stong affirmation from DJs and lovers of cowboy poetry and western music. Joe continues to to tour full-time. Don’t be put off by his college degrees, B.S., M.Ed., and Ph.D. Trust me, they don’t show. If Joe is playing at a spot near you, stop in and say, “Howdy.” You’ll be glad you did. -

Last year, Joe Green and Merry Agape formed the touring accoustic musical duo, North West Union. For complete information on North West Union, go to www.myspace.com/northwestunion. A quick overview appears below: Merry Agape and Joe Green seem an unlikely duo--a trained singer, musician and songwriter from Long Island and New York City and a cowboy poet, singer and songwriter from Allover, Texas. Yet, as North West Union, Merry and Joe are music and poetry emotion! They present an eclectic poetic and musical experience that touches the hearts and souls of a listening audience. Merry’s debut CD, “Simply Put”, recorded in the famed Brill Building in New York City, captures the simple beauty of her heartfelt lyrics, sensitive music and remarkable voice! Her performance connects listeners with deep emotion. Merry has perfected her craft in Manhattan, San Francisco, Nashville and Austin. For over a decade, Merry sang with R&B legend, Ms. Maxine Brown who wrote, “Merry is the best background singer, black or white that I have ever worked with!” Joe’s popular cowboy poetry, stories and songs transport listeners to another place in time and a true place in the heart. Joe’s all-original Ten Gallon Records CD, “Back to the Good Old Days” was a top ten hit on cowboy and western music radio for two years. Joe’s latest CD, “Texas Original - Live” was the 6 cowboy poetry CD in the Spring 09 issue of Western Way Magazine. American Cowboy Magazine says, “This intimate recording is the next best thing to being there!” North West Union will record their debut album in October 2010. The CD, to be entitled “A Common Ground”, will exclusively feature new collaborations by the duo. For a sneak peak or ‘near hear’ of some of their works in progress, go to MySpace.com/northwestunion. Together Merry Agape and Joe Green truly demonstrate “How the North West was One!” For booking, contact Joe at (615) 305-6165 or joe@joegreen.net. -
Influences
Joe's influences are many, but his music has been particularly influenced by Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, George Strait, and Roger Miller. Joe's cowboy poetry influences include lots of great cowboy poets and story tellers, most notably, Will Rogers. When Joe grows up, he would like to write and deliver poetry like Calgary poet, Doris Daley! -
Sounds Like
The most frequent comment about Joe Green's singing is that he sounds like Willie Nelson. It's probably just be cause they come from the same part of the country. When Joe shares a cowboy poem, he sounds like, well, Joe Green.

Hi Joe!
Just stopping by to share some exciting news!
It would be awesome if you would take a moment (or four) to visit my MySpace profile and check out some of my new tunes as well as our Singer/Songwriter's contest (it's only $5 to enter)! The deadline to enter is 4/30/11, so time is running out!
The winner will receive a complimentary week at our 20 acre horse ranch getting demos of his/her songs produced while having an amazingly creative experience at one of the most beautiful places in the world! Families/significant others are also welcome (we have two private guest houses)!
If you know a gifted singer/songwriter that could take advantage of this opportunity, please feel free to pass the info along.
Have an awesome week!
