Dave Norris & Local Ivan is an alt-folk/pop-rock band from Ottawa. It is a project headed by singer/songwriter/producer Dave Norris. The band released their debut full-length album Alma Mater in 2011. They went back in the studio this summer and are now releasing a second full-length, They Let You Paint Your Darker Dreams (2012). A richer but no less melodic and song-oriented style is the result. The album represents a continuation of Norris and his cohorts' sonic ambition, and a focus on fragmented storytelling. "

The group released two EPs, No Scuttle and New Thoughts in 2009 and 2010 respectively. They have toured through Montreal, Toronto, and in between several times. They are Ottawa Bluesfest 2011 Performing Artists, JUNOfest 2012 performers, and have opened for acts The Good Lovelies, The Wilderness of Manitoba, The Deep Dark Woods, Harlan Pepper, Hooded Fang among others.

“...sweet melodies and humour (such as the infectious and tongue-in-cheek Song for an Ad and Million Dollars) are pervasive, while a Ron Sexsmith-esque tonality is eerily omnipresent in Dave Norris’s delivery. ” - Cormac Rea (Xpress, Voir)

"...a voice that's equal parts Nick Drake and Bruce Springsteen, gruff and world-weary one minute, tremendously vulnerable the next, but always completely natural." (i (heart) music)

"The Ottawa native strides forward with a confidence all too often lacking in today's music scene." (herohill)

" - Cormac Rea (Xpress, Voir) "The band unleashes seriously swooshy instrumental largesse over eight tunes that cover off consumerism in the record industry ("Song for an Ad"), music as healer of mental ailing ("Woe Is Me") and celeb obsession ("Courtney L.")." - Fateema Sayani (Ottawa Magazine) "...the pervasive influence of pop culture is fully explored in songs like Song for An Ad, Million Dollars and Courtney L. With its catchy motif, Song for an Ad could easily be used to sell something, but it's actually about a young man who buys into the promise of advertising." - Lynn Saxberg (Ottawa Citizen) "sublimely jangles its folk-pop cacophony of organ, wind instruments, percussion, and perfectly-layered vocals" - Amanda Putz (CBC Radio 3) "...a voice that's equal parts Nick Drake and Bruce Springsteen, gruff and world-weary one minute, tremendously vulnerable the next, but always completely natural." (i (heart) music) "The Ottawa native strides forward with a confidence all too often lacking in today's music scene." (herohill)
