Alex Pangman has been singing the music of the late 1920s, the 1930s and early 1940s for more than a decade when hot music and beautiful ballads first caught the attention of her young ears. With her 2005 release "Live in Montreal" she captures the essence of that classic era of songwriting and hot performance with her band of young lions, "The Alleycats". With influences ranging from Connie Boswell, to Louis Armstrong, & Valaida Snow, Pangman channels no particular singer though it's clear she's heard her fair share of 78s. So, with classic, sometimes obscure influences Pangman sounds like... herself, revelling in the gems of tin pan alley: and even the underplayed gems, and "unstandard standards", like It's Unanimous Now, Serenade in the Night, and, They Say. In 2006 Pangman put her interest in old pieces of shellac to the test when she released her very own 78 rpm of "the Dead Drunks Blues" as a fundraising effort for Hurricane Katrina victims. With three National Jazz Award nominations, Pangman has played many of the main stage festivals in Canada & made National television appearances, as well as appearing with The Royal Jelly Orchestra Dan Barrett, Jim Galloway, Tyler Yarema, and others. She recorded with Peter Ecklund and Chris Whiteley on her 2001 disc, Can't Stop Me From Dreaming, and in 1999 her debut recording included Jeff Healey, John Royen, Dick Sudhalter and more. She has also made guest appearances on the recordings of Jaymz Bee's RJO, The Bebop Cowboys, and Kevin Clark.
