About me:
Can you tell from the headline that I write historical fiction? After too many Cambridge winters shivering in the stacks of Harvard's library, I decided to enliven my studies with... well, you might call it a creative reconstruction of the past. It seemed infinitely more amusing to write about dashing Napoleonic spies in the style of the Scarlet Pimpernel than to actually work on my dissertation. I still don't have that PhD, but my first two books, "The Secret History of the Pink Carnation" and "The Masque of the Black Tulip" are both out in print, with a third, "The Deception of the Emerald Ring", to follow in November. For more info on the books and for the official bio, check out my webpage at www.laurenwillig.com.
Who I'd like to meet:
My readers, of course! And anyone else who loves fiction and history-- I'm always on the lookout for new books, so if anyone has any recommendations....

On your news about the paperback Crimson Rose and Book V release dates! I started re-reading the previous 4 books so I should be ready by the time Night Jasmine is released. I can't wait! Here's to hoping that Night Jasmine is as successful as the previous ones and more!

I have been really enjoying your series since I happened to pick up the 2nd one on sale at B&N (I read the 2nd first and the 1st second, not realizing when I bought the 2nd one that it was a series). I just finished the 4th yesterday and was quite relieved to hear that you have a 5th in the works. My husband keeps telling me I need to slow down reading them, but I keep telling him they are too good and I need to know what happens next! I am going to make my mom read them now (well once she returns all the other books she borrowed from me).
Thank you, please keep em coming!

Darn! I'd been hoping to make it to the Annapolis Book Festival this weekend, but alas!, I have a choir rehearsal smack in the middle of your scheduled time. Oh well! One day I'll be able to make it to a signing and ramble embarassingly about how much I love your books.

I finished Crimson Rose the other day, and it has stayed with me since. I loved it! I didn't want it to end. I hope you will continue the Pink Carnation series. I actually re-read books 1-3 back-to-back so that I wouldn't forget any of the details that were carried over into book 4.
Again, great book! Thanks!!!

Just finished Crimson Rose, and it was wonderful, Lauren. Probably second favorite to Pink Carnation. Great writing! And the only thing that made it better was hearing it read by the talented Kate Reading on audio CD. She is great with telling your stories. OK, I'm ready for the next one!

So, I got book one over holiday but I never got around to reading it because I knew it was a series and didn't want to start until I had time to finish. It was by chance I found book two at Borders on sale. So, I purchased it and went home. I read book one in one day, book two the next. I stayed up late reading and ordered the third and fourth books that night online. I just love the Pink Carnation series and I hope you continue for a while. Quite quickly it has become one of my favorite series and by default, you've become one of my favorite authors. Great work!

Hey, Lauren.

I'm in the middle of "Crimson Rose" and, OMG! I didn't know how you were going to make Mary (not to mention Vaughn) personable enough for us to feel sympathy towards them. Well done! You didn't make them pathetic, either. They still have their original personalities that we screwed up our noses at in the previous three books, but now they have a depth to them that has us nodding our heads and saying, "Okay, now I understand." I'm loving the book and, as I said earlier, I'm just in the middle. I can't wait for Book V. When's it coming? Rhetorical question.

Congratulations on Book IV! A triumph!

Feb 10 2008 8:15 AM

Just finished The Seduction of the Crimson Rose and I absolutely loved it (figured I would) When I first read that this book was going to be about Vaughn and Mary my reaction was, "why Vaughn?!" I wasn't sure how I felt about him. The first 3 books made me think he was a total scum bag! However this book has probably turned him into my favorite character! I really had to pace myself so I wouldn't finish with it too quick. I may have to read it more than once while I'm waiting for the next book. Or maybe I'll just read the whole series again :) I recommend your books to all my friends. Can't wait to find out what happens next.

I'm in the middle of it and can't put it down. In fact, it's so distracting I'm allowing my 1 year old daughter to pull out every pot and lid just to read One. More. Page. Great job so far.

Feb 6 2008 2:43 AM

I stumbled on Crimson Rose when I went to Border's for a different book. I had it in my head that it came out Valentine's Day. Imagine my delight (and subsequent snatching a copy off the shelf in front of startled patrons) at seeing my long anticipated treat! Ahhh, I LOVED IT. It pained me to put it down for important things, like work and that sort of nonsense. I stayed up until 4 am accidentally. "Oh", says I, "Just a few more pages." Ooooops. It was fabulous. I had no idea I could like Lord Vaughn so much. Pray continue the floral spying trend!

Feb 3 2008 5:21 PM

LOVED the new book! As soon as the postman arrived bearing my pre-ordered copy, I couldn't put it down! It's in such a different tone than the previous books, but one that works so very well for Mary's story- and then fit in perfect contrast to the Epic Love Story of Eloise and Colin! Wonderfully done, Lauren! So- how's Pink V coming? ;)
