  • Bio

.. 1999- The person known as Dave Veatch from Auburn, Al. was having trouble expressing his true self. He tore himself apart and in rebuilding himself was reborn as Rudy Banes. .. .. 2000-2001- Rudy is joined by a backup band consisting of drums and keyboards and they are known as The Rudy Banes Sound. .. .. The drummer and Rudy move to Montgomery, Al. to be closer to their jobs at Alabama Public Television. They are both videographers. .. .. 2002- Keyboard player moves to Atlanta. .. .. 2003- Rudy and the drummer play one last show together as a two piece known as The Rudy Banes Out Loud. Then the drummer moves to Atlanta as well. .. .. Rudy is now forced to start over completely. He hunkers down with a space heater, a guitar and his dogs in his bedroom for the first half of the year and watches the war on Iraq and works on new material. This new material is the best compromise Rudy can come up with to assuage his love for singer songwriters, skronk/art damaged rockers and classic punkers. .. .. a drummer joins him. .. .. In November an old friend, Pak (pronounced like chicken poks) Nichols, calls and tells Rudy he needs to move to Montgomery to work for his art dealer. He asks if he can move in with Rudy. Rudy agrees on one condition: he must play bass for the new band. He agrees. The three of them immediately begin preparing the new sound. The Rudy Banes Shutdown is born. The Shutdown proves to be the tightest lineup yet, with a chemistry and style that is everything Rudy has been searching for in a band. .. .. 2004- The Rudy Banes Shutdown play their first show on Friday the thirteenth of February. They enjoy much praise from the local scene. It prompts them to set their sites on out of town audiences. Summer through fall they record and prepare the packaging of their CDs. .. .. 2005- After a year and a half, many shows and a CD, our bass player Pak announced his departure from the group. That same day the Shutdown's longtime friend and supporter Jeff McLeod agreed to fill in for upcoming shows. Jeff began practicing with us the next day. By the end of our second practice, he knew a set's worth of material and played his first show with us within a week of Paks departure. .. .. Not skipping a beat since replacing our bass player, the Shutdown continued on stronger than ever, with our busiest show playing schedule of our bands career. Jeff agreed to join the band full time while still keeping up with his other musical projects such as Gezoleen and Liquid Brick. .. .. February 1, 2007- that's all folks! .. .. "trapped in the small talk" CD (2006) $7.00 - includes shipping .. "the rudy banes shutdown" self titled debut CD (2005) $7.00 - includes shipping

I'm really sorry to hear about this Dave. You did such a fantastic job, your cd's always looked great, your lyrics actually had something to say, and you had some of my favourite musicians in this project. And the concerts were always fun.

    You'll be missed.

Looking forward to the Rudy Banes Cornucopia, Round III.
