...... .... ..Biography:.. The Rude Dudes formed in January of 2001 with founding members, Patrick Taylor on Trombone, Derek Stoppels on Tenor Sax, Diego Kluver on Guitar, Akira Jones on Bass and Josh Ferguson on Drums. The Rude Dudes got started when Pat, Derek, Akira and Diego quit their former band, Hit and Run because Hit and Run weren’t practising enough to satisfy the ska needs of these guys. They also got Josh, some guy they knew from their high school concert band. The band later acquired Sophia Godoy as a lead vocalist when Derek and Pat decided they would rather just concentrate on their horn playing. In August of 2001, The Rude Dudes recorded an EP in a basement and Josh left the band in September to pursue other scholastic interests. That was the time when Matt Smith joined as the new drummer. Later, Sophie left the band when she realized ska was not her deal and decided it was best for her to leave the band. So The Rude Dudes were left without a singer. Now they were just five ugly dudes who couldn’t sing. After a few weeks of pondering upon what to do about a singer, Derek and Pat just decided it was easier and more time efficient to sing the songs themselves. The next September Akira also left the band to pursue his scholarly interests. Enter Mark Laforest. Mark’s metal background was somewhat of a concern to the Rude Dudes when he first joined but they soon got over it when they realized how monumental their music could become if they could only find a way to harness his goodness. Mark’s first show with the band, was a battle of the bands where he only had one practise a week before to learn the songs and play them. After a few months Diego parted ways with the band and they found Cedric Belanger to take his spot. Although Diego is irreplaceable, Cedric adds a very different feel to the band by “rippin’ up the axe” with his own creative style. .... ..The Success Stories:.. Battle of the bands at Confederation Park 2002: First Place Nepean Student Showcase Jam 2002: Second Place Ottawa Musicfest 2002: First Place Emergenza Quarter Finals 2003: Fourth Place Emergenza Semi Finals 2003: Second Place Emergenza Finals 2003: Third Place Emergenza Quarter Finals 2004: Second Place Osgoode Township Skatepark Battle of the Bands 2003: Second Place (Mark's 1st show) Osgoode Township Skatepark Battle of the Bands 2004: First Place Osgoode Township Skatepark Battle of the Bands 2005: First Place .... ..Beginning:.. When the Rude Dudes started writing songs, they spent a lot of time perfecting them and making sure every symbal crash and syllable was in the right spot before moving on to the next one. They waited a long time before they played a show, this was because they wanted to make sure every song was as perfect as it was going to get before they started playing it. .... ..Sound:.. Their very unique sound, a combination of the likes of Metallica, Pennywise, the Planet Smashers, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Less Than Jake, can not be imitated. Their perfect blend of punk drums and guitar riffs with the bounce of the horns can not be found anywhere else. They most definitely are a force to be reckoned with. .... ..Live Performance:.. The Rude Dudes try and make every live show an unforgettable experience. They want every person to leave the building at the end of the night thinking “Man, those guys were awesome…what was their name again?” They practice long and hard for every show they play and give 110% energy on stage because they know that if they were in the crowd, they would want their socks rocked off. They make sure, or try anyways, that the money you spent at the show was worth every penny. That’s because they hate getting ripped off and so they figure the crowd must too, so they never let you down.
