Myspace Profile Tracker World Visitor Map Though today pop music seems to be the only path to success, Redstar embodies classic and authentic Hip Hop music without any of the fake and phony additives. Redstar as a group consist of two mcs, Morgan Alexander Jones aka Mojo, Tang King, and DJ/Producer, Sickstar. They provide a clear alternative not only to gangsta rap but also to the watered-down and overly soft pop-rap and southern crunk music. Through the passion of Hip Hop music, the trio met at The Lab, Shanghai, a non profit DJ/Hip Hop studio/community established by China's first DMC champion, DJ V-nutz and 2nd place competitor DJ Fortune. With the local release of their first single, " Shanghai Represents " thru outlets such as nightclubs and radio stations, Redstar has gained much publicity from hip hop fans all throughout China. Redstar artist have performed with local artists such as DJ DSK (www.djdsk.com), DJ V-Nutz (www.organicsoul.cn) and international artists such as DJ Q-Bert (www.djqbert.com), DJ A-Vee and MC PUNCHLINE of MTV's lyricist lounge fame. Redstar is also a member of the The Lab (www.thelab.cn) promoting and educating creative and conscious urban music in China. MoJo is also one-third of the China hip-hop superteam Redstar. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1982, MoJo was born with beats in his blood, heavily influenced by jazz, R&B and hip-hop as a youngster. By the age of nine, MoJo picked up the art of beatboxing after listening to favorites such as Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie and the Fat Boys. It was only a matter of time before MoJo would start picking up the pen and becoming a fully-fledged lyrical mc. MoJo currently lives in Shanghai, China and can rock shows in both English and Mandarin, switching between languages with ease. Scribing full verses and songs faster than you can say his name; MoJo’s lyrics catch the sprit of the youth and today’s urban life with a positive, motivational feel full of NYC flavor and aggressive, piercing rhymes. Not only can the man write, MoJo freestyles, beatboxes and sings his way to connect his message with hip-hoppers and non-believers alike delivering inspiration, developing dialogue and forcing raw energy to any and every crowd. His verse on Redstar’s first single, Shanghai Represent, captures the heart of the streets of Shanghai and displays his social awarness of his surroundings: “I live/in a land where people begging for pennies/and ??spots [Chinese whore houses] are all around, many-a-plenty. " Tang King. MC Tang King the latter half of the mc duo of Redstar, was born and raised in Shanghai, China. Being first introduced to hip hop music in 1997, he immediately fell for the heavy drums and the dark rhythmic tones. By 2003, he became a full-time MC and earning himself a spot as one of Shanghai's rising hip hop talents. His status as one of China's best Freestyle MC is rarely challenged and often displayed during live shows in which he fully engulfs the crowd with energy and competency. Though currently residing in his hometown Shanghai, Tang King can be spotted hosting events all throughout China from rural cities to the country's capital Beijing. He has been featured with WYBO Vodka, for the WYBO Vodka China Hip Hop tour 2006, and a critically claimed 2nd place for IRON MIC, the biggest mc competition in China which took place in front of 3000 fans. Through his youthful and urban sound he captivates a loyal and international audience. With influences from legendary artists such as Rakim, Nas, Jay Z, Tupac and Jurassic 5, Tang King studies from the greats, recreating his own poetic flow with street awareness and social consciousness. Sickstar is the producer behind the groups music. Born in Taiwan, raised in Los Angeles, but has resided all over the world, from countries such as Spain, France, Morocco and Shanghai. From this he has incorporated many styles of music into his own, with a blend of chopped up samples, heavy " boom bap " drum patterns and a soulful touch has given Sickstar a reputation for producing beats with a " feeling." Taking influences from the great producers such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, J Dilla, Neptunes, TImbaland and Just Blaze has help place Sickstar on a path of creating classic beats with popularity and longevity in its sound. Discovering hip hop at the age of 6 years old, he has been a full time fan ever since, and with his love for hip hop music he started producing beats in 2001 for his first group, Codified Cipher which was nominated as group of the month by Chuck D of Public Enemies website, Rapstation.com. Now living in Shanghai, China, he has decided to form the international supergroup, Redstar. Equipped with his sampler/drum machine the Akai MPC 2000XL, he is ready to bring Chinese hip hop to the next level, steering clear away from the typical sounds and corny cookie cutter R n B songs. Never been the one to follow trends and going against the grain has been his motto since a child, ORIGINALITY is KEY in the world of Sickstar.
