  • Bio

Vinyl Shriner is a five-piece modern rock band. The band prides itself on the current post 90s rock wave of taking the best ideas and forming something new and fresh. Vinyl Shriner was formed in mid 1995. Vinyl Shriner has taken their music on the road to a successful response from audiences in the Midwest. Wizened by this experience, Vinyl Shriner released their first CD, Saving Children, in late 1996. The response was overwhelming with the disc selling out the first pressing. Vinyl Shriner's second release, Dressed For Church, shows the band maturing and exploring new musical horizons. Critically, Vinyl Shriner has been compared to mixture of Velvet Underground, R.E.M., The Feelies and The Pixies. Response to the first disc was positive, leaving high expectations for the second. "Shiny Guitar sound and pop melodies that insinuate themselves in your mind" -Indianapolis Star "Immediately magnetic pop sprite" -The Twee Kitten........ "A dynamic disc" -Lafayette Journal and Courier "A sweet album that sets in right at home at first listening" -Nuvo Newsweekly Review of song "My Tattoo" Vinyl Shriner has to be one of the most underappreciated and underrated groups in Indiana. The band's rhythm section is tight as hell, the guitars are tasteful and the vocals are consistently great. This new song, exclusive to nuvo.net, is a plaintive song about the joys of body art. "Expressing myself/ At the risk of my own health," they sing, and it's such a good pop song, one might swear that Pete Townshend or Nick Lowe were present at the sessions. Their emphasis on well-written, well-played pop songs has made Vinyl Shriner a favorite live band and "My Tattoo" shows that they're good in the studio as well.
