One of the main questions asked about me is why this character? ... .. I guess the answer is, a long time ago in 95,96 a buddy of mine was having a halloween party. He wanted a good party said dress as something or you will be dressed in drag. After having my mom dress me that way for kindergarden halloween party I had my fill. So after kicking a few ideas around I settled on the centaur idea. .... . Now how does one make a centaur? .. The frist centaur suit I made was pretty cheezy looking back at it. But then again it was for a different purpose. What i was going to do was to get one of the wire reindeer that are put out for christmass displays. But when i was sizing the reindeers to me they were alot smaller than me. Some say I'm a pretty big guy. So plan B had to kick in, and went and bought some wire and made a frame that fit me. Covered it with paper mache, some brown fake fur from the fabric store total cost less than $150 and I was set for the party.Which was probally one of the better parties thrown by my buddy. ... ... .... .... What to do after the party? ... Well it was a big hit at that party and I did spend a few hours putting the suit together what to do? Well the Texas Renaissance Festival was going on and having been there once before and with the wife (girl friend at the time)having made a barbarian outfit also for the same party away we went. Then we got hooked cause of the good time we had. Yupp back then it was fun. How did I get this suit? Well the frist centaur suit was made just for one time. but then after four years of taking it to ren faire and the abuse of all the people mundanes and rennies alike it was falling apart. So I said if I'm going to be this character I might as well to try to make it a little more realistic. The frist thing was the height needed to be taller and the body strudier cause of people jumping on the back. So I made a metal skeleton frame then I did the wire body shaping with mesh wire for the paper mache to go on, but as a weird fate the day I was going to buy newspaper was 9-11-2001and I just didn't want that mixed in with my stuff so I came up with the idea of styrofoam (great stuff) and it is. Cause i could sand and shape it as needed. Next was cow hide for the real fur look. I bought two cow hides thinking that would be enough, a little missed judgement. But it came together with a cost of just under $2500 just in the materails but it is a labor of love. Centaur 2.1 Never having done any real leather work when I covered the frame with the cow hide I started using scissors which we could see that wasn't the way to go. So the wife (Midain) works as a nurse grabbed some scalpulls from work and that was the ticket. I could cut the hide and make nice seams and they were perfect for the frist couple of days. I wanted to protect my baby after working so hard on it. So i would wrap plastic around it. Well there is this thing called condensation and when leather gets wet it shrinks so my perfect seams were no longer perfect. Also it seems that the stryofoam expanded a little when the warmth of the sun hit my back side.So after a couple of seasons i had to rehide the suit. I wasn..t expecting that cause there goes another $1000 into this thing. It was good thing I guess, cause I had bought a real tail instead of the fake human hair tail that i had been sporting before, and after reinstalling the tail after a mundane chick wanted to pull on the tail and pulled it off. I made the tail wag which is a big hit with the young and the young at heart. ....
