.. .. .. .. .... ..Munir Khauli: Na3am...... .. .. .. .. ...... Munir was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. He started playing guitar in his early teens. His early influences were British bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin... He holds a BA in English literature from the American University of Beirut. In the years 1976 to 1986, all the songs he wrote featured English lyrics and ranged between bluesy rock and acoustic folk. The years 1982 to 1992 were spent in the USA. His first song in Arabic was written in 1985, and he completed his first Arabic language album "Heik ha Nishtghil ?" in 1986 and released it in Lebanon on cassette in 1987. This was followed by "Khatimet Heik ha Nishtghil?" in 1988 and "Bil 3arabil Mshabrah" in 1991... 1994 saw his return to Lebanon, where he became a permanent member of Ziad Rahbani's band. He played guitar on all of Ziad's albums that were released during the last 10 years. His guitar can also be heard on all of the CDs by Fairuz during the same period. He has composed dozens of jingles for TV and radio in Lebanon. His last album, "Tannin al Tarab", was released on CD in 2003 on Elef Records. Four songs from the CD appear on Myspace, the remaining six available on the official website - http://www.munirkhauli.com/mkaudio.htm; in addition to "Arab Blues", written in English and dealing with the discrimination against Arabs in the USA following the September 11 attacks... Over the years, Munir has staged numerous concerts and given interviews on radio and television. And with the start of 2007, he will start working on his new CD. We will keep you posted. .. Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin (the raw heavy sound), Pink Floyd (the mellow, hypnotic effect), Frank Zappa (the social criticism and musical innovation), Johnny Guitar Watson (the infectious humor), Bob Dylan (the simple, effective urban poetry), Ziad Rahbani (the home grown genius), James Brown (the most basic, elementary funk), Robin Trower (his guitar playing still kills me), Frank Sinatra (the elegant arrangements - courtesy of Nelson Riddle), Carlos Santana (the successful fusion of Latin and Rock music - something I tried to emulate in fusing Arabic music with Rock), Jeff Beck (always expanding the dictionary of guitar language), Gil Scott-Heron (the ultimate voice of revolution); as well as countless other Rock, Jazz, Funk and Blues artists.
