11 General are a four piece band from Carlingford, Sydney with strong punk influences, and a mix of something different.
We started in early 2006. Edgah and Gordy were longing to start some sort of punk band. Gordy on guitar and Eddie on bass. We jammed alot with James Gill (drums) and it eventually lead to the birth of 'Teenage Scum', trying to become that street punk band in the centre of an emo, screamo, hardcore neighbourhood. It was terrible.
Anyway, when we usually would start a band it was always iffy and we weren't too sure that this was actually gonna happen. But this just seemed like a cool idea. Ryan Valdes came off suspension and overheard the talk on this band. He offered frontman position and we accepted. We wasted no time in getting started. Our first practice included the recording of our first track "Give it A Rest", "AVO Blues (Blurters cover) and "Aint She Dumb" (Rocks cover). After being proud of our progress we took to the stage and got the crowd going. More and more shows and more and more kids showing up, but inside the band, things were shaking when we were not satisfied with the vocals of Ryan. After alot of fighting and fussing we gave him the boot. This came at a bad time as we were reaching a good peak. In the local community, we fell almost instantly with the loss of our main practice area. (James's Garage) and it was inpossible to get together to do anything anymore.
After a good 3 months we got off our asses and tried to get it together. Attempting to re-write songs and get back on our feet. But things looked bleak with James's back going through surgery and he left the band.
We continued with Scott, who we asked to fill-in for drums until we found a new one. We were amazed with his abilltiy to pick up our songs quickly. As we took to the stage for the first time in 6 months we decided to ask him to stay permanently and he accepted. Very casually.
A friend of ours, Matt, came to one of our shows and sang "Mormons" for us. We were more than pleased with his vocals and stage prescence. He took the position. Jesse, a friend of Matt's, offered to join as rhythm guitarist and we accepted as we knew this would strengthen our sound as a band.
But as time progressed and show after show being asked "wheres jesse?" he resigned from the band due to jesses busy schedual was keeping him grounded and wanting to keep a good freindship up knowing that not showing up was slowing down our progress and also over time could have started fights he respectably left but if you look forward to seeing him you can now see jesse skanking his ass off at our shows as our number 1 fan
We now take on the form of 11 General and with it a new shape of punk to come. Stay tuned as we are now a working band, so get use to our name popping up a fair bit and we look forward to you kids skanking at our shows
