Bio
Resting comfortably in the nook of spacey and driving, Culprit deliver music that takes the energy and technicality of post-hardcore and merge it with the hooks and melodicism of Brit rock. Accounting for their ambient and otherworldly tones, Zach (bass) admits “If you asked bands around San Fernando (CA) where we are from about Culprit, they would say, ‘Oh, all those guys are stoners.’ It’s not like our band is about that but we definitely like the effects on our sound.” That sound is prominent all over the band’s new EP Analogue.
Speaking on the title Zach says “Analogue means the encompassment of a being. This EP is what we feel like encompasses Culprit at this time, a good representation of everything our sound is.” The EP was produced by Erik Ron, whose credits include Foxy Shazam, Versa Emerge, Panic At The Disco, and Four Year Strong and was recorded over several sessions over the course of a year. Crisp and full, Ron’s sonic signature achieves the level of emotion that Culprit’s songs hold. Zach comments “Erik (Ron) works at such a fast pace but he is also so detailed and on top of things, he really helped capture the energy of the songs.”
Theme wise, a stand out track on the EP Redeemer is about 2012, the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar...although it’s the catchiest ode to devastation you’ll ever hear. The song Siren (which has a music video online) and several others, according to Zach, “deal with relationships, though not necessarily just the girl boy variety, more of the relationships you have with music.”
Hailing from the San Fernando valley, CA (ten minutes from Hollywood), the band has been building a rabid fan base through their home state, playing up and down the coast with such culprits as Everclear, The Higher, The Dangerous Summer, InAviate and Sherwood. The band includes Travis Powell - vocals, guitar, Mayauel Garavito - vocals, guitar, Zach Blumenfeld - bass, Jason Michalski - drums
