   Contacting Shane

    Shane's Interests
GeneralGenealogy. I have my FOX (FUCHS) line back to 1608 in Niederbieder, Germany. In the U.S., we're known as the Mohawk Valley Foxes. Other lines of interest are: KERNELL, MARTIN, SEXTON, PIGGOTT, BENBROOK, KENNEDY, BLAIR, SNEAD, & SLATON.
MusicI love it all! Can't sing or even hum in tune, but can be moved to tears by really good music.
MoviesSin City, Five Easy Pieces, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Once Upon A Time In The West, Pulp Fiction, True Romance, Radio Flyer and Elizabethtown among my favorites. Elizabethtown is such a "chick flick" but I loved it. Guess it put me in touch with my softer, girly side. My favorite B/W weeper, Imitation of Life. Favorites from books: From Here to Eternity, Some Came Running, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, The Grapes of Wrath.
TelevisionHardly ever. Well, I am hooked on 24 and do watch Nature, Nova, and some baseball and football games. Oh yeah, Idol. The only news I trust is PBS - News Hour. And then there's those reruns of Raymond, but other than that, hardly ever.
BooksI read 3 or 4 books a month. Usually one biography, one fiction, and one or two history or current events.
HeroesU. S. Grant. Like me, he had to reinvent himself several times and was a veritable scourge of perseverance. Plus, the dude was a scrapper.

   Shane's Blurbs
About me:
Stone cold Scorpio! Be forewarned.

Actor/Writer and political operative & community organizer for progressive candidates and causes.

I serve on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Retired Americans, am the Vice President for Community Organizations of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans and was an at-large delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging. For what it's worth, Bush became the first U.S. President not to appear at his own conference. He chose, instead, to have a photo-op in a gated community in suburban Virginia to extol Medicare D to wealthy retirees.

The WHCOA is held only once every ten years and in past administrations resulted in legislation such as the Older Americans Act and Medicare among others.

I grew up in Alton, Illinois in a working class (OCAW) family and graduated from Marquette Senior High School. My high school yearbook described me as a friendly, fun-loving guy.

Now, I guess I'm the sort of guy who can be your best friend or worst enemy, pretty much your choice as to how that turns out.

I served with the Marines as a regimental S2-Scout with the 5th Marine Regiment.

I graduated from the University of Houston with a B/A in Journalism and worked in Houston radio and television as an investigative reporter and talk-show host and producer. I earned numerous awards and recognitions including foreign study grants from the European Economic Community(now the EU) and the Jerusalem Press Club in Israel.

I've reported and produced news reports from small town cop-shops to the White House Press Room and covered fires, floods, hurricanes, refugee situations, several national political conventions and from several key listening posts in the Middle East and Europe during the early weeks of the Iranian Hostage Crises.

Who I'd like to meet:
The guy who said: Bring It On! Mission Accomplished! Stay The Course! Yeah, that guy, face to face for ten minutes or so. In a closed room, just me and him.
