the point of it all
Was just reading about the impending execution of the DC Beltway Sniper, John Muhammad, and got to thinking about a couple of things.
What is the point of Life imprisonment as opposed to execution? It doesn't help society, stretches out the pain and suffering felt by the victim's and their families...the continuing fear that someday they might be released...
The cost to the state, the lack of rehabilitation...just because it's supposedly more humane and just to have someone sit and rot in jail until they die?
Execution seems far more humane and just. It gives closure to that desire for justice/revenge.
Personally, I like the idea of more corporal punishments and fair treatment. If you steal a loaf of bread, you should be forced to pay back twice what you stole, NOT a 500.00 fine and 2 years probation, 24 hours community service, and counseling(example, not personal experience)
If you rape someone, you should be tied to a bed and raped TWICE, NOT 20-30 years in a state prison (where you could be raped HUNDREDS of times)
Eye for an eye, not a life for a fingernail. -

About Halloween time again. Personally, it doesn't hold the same appeal that it used to back when I was young. I miss the haunted theatre in jeffersonville. I miss a lot of things. I wonder if I'll ever feel so "young" again, when newness was around every corner. -
