The 120 Biography Many people consider rhythm and blues music a pastime that is far behind this current generation. That was until Southern New Jersey's favorite sons Niko , Tarius and Babyboy came together to form 120. 120 brings R&B music back in style with twists containing spins on the "typical topics" of love, life, and pursuing your dreams for the masses and generations to come. Considered the ultimate compliment to one another, the musical veterans are said to compliment one another like the Yin and Yang known well throughout the Eastern world with the great combinations of their individual street, yet amazingly smooth styles and talents. Chris "Niko" Morton born to parents in Atlantic City took to music almost instantly from his mother's womb, "by the time I was five, I had fallen into a deep love affair with music, so much so that my mom put me in a play (chuckles)." By the time Niko reached middle school age, it was apparent to his parents and him that all musical genres had taken deep root in his heart, and wanted his soul to marry into the dream of him entertaining millions. Although he has a commanding stage presence that forces audiences and people in general to take notice, it is the honesty and fearlessness of his lyrics that truly leaves followers screaming for more. "One of my hopes as an artist [and for the group as a whole] is to be at the forefront of the revolution in today's music [that we are on the cusp of] that will ultimately lead to the truly remembered classic artists of tomorrow [or twenty and thirty years from now]." Not only a lyricist, Niko is also responsible for writing and producing his own lyrics and some of the group's music. When asked what it is that he would most like 120 to be known for, he stated " we want people to know that we are trying to place a different spin on R&B music...our motto is 'have a good time' and we really hope that people feel that through our music." Ron "Tarius" Mahoney was born in Philadelphia, but moved to the Blackwood/Williamstown, New Jersey areas shortly thereafter. This singer, writer, producer became seasoned after being in several groups that unfortunately were unable to work out. Far from the average R&B crooner and ballad maker, Tarius's smooth, romantic tenor voice has been compared to satins and silks, which at the slightest note can make women of any age melt. Tarius is known in 120 greatly for creating feel good summertime anthems, which still contain smooth, yet meaningful messages, while maintaining the grown, sexy, and passionate lyrics that true R&B lovers crave. "Music is a part of me, now and forever; and I can never let it go...I feel music!" Lorence "Babyboy" Green Is a Camden native and feels very strongly about his hometown and not forgetting where you come from. "I've been a singer/performer since I could walk". Babyboy has performed on the same stage with Legendary artists such as The Blue Notes, The Intruders, After 7, Erika Badu, Floetry, and the Delphonics. The self proclaimed musical perfectionist lives , breathes and eats music and won't stop until his and the groups dreams and fulfilled! "For me, it's Go hard or go home"! After both trying to make their dreams a reality individually as well as in other unsuccessful groups, through the suggestions of several mutual friends, for almost ten years these three friends have been rocking stages all across the tri-state area together, which has led to numerous successful placements in local competitions. "We tried it out at several different shows, and got an amazing response from the crowd...we felt and fed off of one another's energies, and the rest is 120 history", states Tarius. Many have asked the age old question, where does the name 120 come from, but few realize that the response is actually right under their noses. Everyone gives 100 percent of themselves to a dream, while this dynamic trio is giving 120 percent of themselves to making dreams become sweet realities, and aptly named themselves 120. Which truly represents all that they pour into their music. -
