1224 Project ("twelve twenty-four") is a jazz trio (plus occasional special guests) playing original improvised music, reworked standards and jazz that grooves.
We create and perform new music that encourages the musicians to take risks and play with energy, intensity and interaction. The music is honest and fresh with exciting, spontaneous performances.
We are currently performing new material for a new CD. The compositions are partly a reaction to the situation in post-Katrina New Orleans. This remarkable city is a unique community where the musicians are regarded as its backbone and as being essential to its survival.
The Project is named after a front door in New Orleans (see Gallery).
Educated at Berklee College of Music, the Guitar Institute and Oxford University, Dylan Kay has studied with some of the world's finest jazz educators, including Mick Goodrick, Hal Crook, David Tronzo, Tim Miller and Richie Hart. He has performed extensively in Boston, USA and throughout the UK, leading his own contemporary jazz bands and performing with others, including working as musical director for US jazz singer Ellen O'Brien. Dylan also teaches guitar at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London.
Leslee Booth studied at GIT in Los Angeles in 1981, and went on to tour and record with Gloria Gaynor, Billy Eckstine and Freda Payne. He is now a busy freelance bass player on the London circuit - he currently plays with Helen McDonald's London Bridge Ensemble, classical guitarist and composer John Zarridan, Branco Stoysin and the Vladimir Miller Quartet.
Born in northern France, David Bouet moved to Paris in the mid-nineties to start a career as a freelance drummer and
then to London to study at the London College of Music. After graduating, regular session and live work led him to tour all over
the UK with bands including Lavida Santana, Europe’s leading Santana tribute band. He also enjoys a busy schedule playing in first-class function bands, as
well as performing in many festivals across the UK.
