Happy birthday to me!  I turn 24 today.  Not too much different in my life, but I am making some progress on a couple of fronts.  I've got a car, it's not one I wanted, but it's a car.  It needs a new windshield and I need to learn to drive stick.  I've also been exercising and watching my diet for the past couple months, and I've dropped about 15 lbs.  I'm also starting to get the muscle back in my arms and back, and rebuilding my endurance, and that feels pretty good.
  • Self-immolation

There was a really big moth in my living room tonight, and it flew into a halogen lamp.  At first it kind of fluttered around, then went right into the bulb.  As a delayed reaction, there was a puff of smoke, and then a minute or so later a really strong, foul burning smell.  I had to strike a match and light a big scented candle to mask the stench.  Who knew a measley dead bug could smell so bad!
  • So it goes...

  • Kurt's up in heaven now.

Kurt Vonnegut, my favorite author and one of my personal heros, died today at the age of 84.  The title of this post is a little joke and tribute to him, he said the same of Isaac Asimov at his funeral, and expressed the wish that someone would say that about him when he's dead in his book Timequake.   He was a keen observer and satirist of us crazy human beings and the lives we live, and his books were always a joy, to me, to read.  The other thing I would like to say in tribute to him is that he made the world a better place, at least a little bit.  I think as a humanist, he would appreciate that (and the heaven joke).
