While in preschool the young Luke Ash was a hyper child living in New Orleans. His father was diligently working one afternoon and needed a way to keep the youngster out of his hair for a moment. He approached his son in a serious tone and said, "Son, here's a bird cage. I want you to catch me a squirrel and you can keep him in here as a pet." Luke looked up staring his father in the eye, reciprocating the seriousness with his blueish green eyes then grasped the bird cage. When a small gray squirrel circled the bottom of a large pecan tree, little Luke jerked it up by its tail. The marment bit him on the hand hard enough to draw blood. Luke had no choice but to let the marment free. Although outwardly this tragic event only yielded a small triangular shaped scar on his left hand, the pain of this memory can be felt in each one of Luke's songs. -John Wilbur Associated Press ************************************************* As a college student working in the summer heat, Luke Ash payed the bills with a lawn maintenance job. On one of his rare opportunities to ride the lawn mower (instead of the rigorous task of weed eating), Luke spotted a monkey off in the distance. He squinted to focus across the old plantation property. His eyes were surely deceiving him (little monkeys don't typically run wild across southern Louisiana). "It must be a squirrel," he thought to himself." The marment ran away leaving Luke puzzled as to what it was. His best guess was that it was a large black squirrel. It was not until a trip to Omaha, Nebraska that Luke's suspicion was confirmed. Upon visiting the Epcot Center looking zoo behind Rosenblatt Stadium, Luke and a friend took pictures of a black squirrel in captivity. After this confirmation, Luke decided to name his band "The Black Squirrels" because of their familiar yet unique sound. -Timothy Carlson LA Annual ************************************************* Luke Ash and The Black Squirrels are simply terrific yet unsettling.. unnerving... poignant.. potent.. and a heck of a live show! -Liam McFarley Me Magazine .. ............Myspace Layouts.. - ..Myspace Editor.. - ..Hot Comments.. - ..Image Hosting.... ......
