People who don't say, "I'm bored," but instead do something to make life interesting. People who think of others rather than themselves. People who think long-term, but enjoy the moment. People who don't define themselves by what toys they can own.

Movies
These are in no particular order, just some movies I love:
The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Majestic Dangerous Beauty I'd never heard of an "honest courtesan" or Veronica Franco before I saw this movie, and, of course, that led to reading one book, which lead to reading another book, which lead to a term paper, which lead to... Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Don't even know just what to tell you about this movie, just that your education is not nearly complete until you see it 1969 (we should be leaves, just leaves...) This movie captures the wistful beauty of the 60's as well as the darkness The Milagro Beanfield War (personal conspiracy theory: this movie is only rated R because the powerless Mexicans win...) I Heart Huckabees (everything from Philosophy 101 set into "real" life) The Candidate (the truth about politics, and it's only gotten worse since...) The Graduate (plastics, my boy, plastics) Wayne's World and Wayne's World 2 Just delightfully weird, anachronistic, and ya gotta love the references to the Doors movie It's a Wonderful Life Good for your soul most of the Star Wars movies Close Encounters of the Third Kind (especially the director's cut one where it follows Richard Dreyfuss into the space ship and the music "When You Wish Upon a Star" plays, just gives me chills Spartacus I am not an animal! Woodstock need I say more? Iron-Jawed Angels I never noticed until I tried to find out more about the characters in this historical fiction how neglected is our knowledge of the suffragette movement in America, it was difficult even to find information Merlin I know it screws with Arthurian legend, but it's still delightful and gorgeous to look at. I want a feather cape just like Sam Neill wears. When I'm feeling punchy I talk like Queen Mab... American Graffiti I've raised my kids in Modesto, and although the surface has changed greatly since George Lucas wrote this paean to his childhood home, the spirit is still the same (and the cops still seem to hate teenagers...). Too bad the great tradition of the cruise was outlawed the same year the city honored Lucas with a bronze statue of two kids cruising. Blazing Saddles Gotta love that the "ending" lasts for something like 20 minutes. Young Frankenstein So many quotable lines, and Marty Feldman's eyes!

I'm just a crazy bleeding heart liberal thriving in my insanity despite living in the red part of a blue state. I like living outside of the gathering seine net of the city, but close enough to go visit often. I don't know why, but I seem to live a charmed life. I win contests. I got a scholarship based on dumb luck. I have five kids, mostly grown, all brilliant and gorgeous. "Not an idiot in the bunch," as my grandfather used to say (oh boy, that New Jersey wisdom...). I let a melanoma spot go for two years before I got around to visiting the dermatologist, and it was still 0 stage. Miraculously left no more mark on my life than a nasty excision scar on my back. Gets me free food and lots o' love at Relay for Life events, too. I got married at a crazy young age, and we're still together and still in love. I had a beautiful and brilliant daughter at the age of 46. A charmed life, I tell ya... Maybe if you hang around with me, your luck will be better, too!
Twilight
We're obsessed here at our house, looking forward to the movie release November 21st....
Who I'd like to meet: Joan Baez ~I'd love to hear her amazing voice, but I'd be happy just to go out to dinner with her and talk... Hunter S. Thompson~but, oh shit, he's dead Mitch Hedberg
~but, oh shit, he's dead too geez, this list has really taken a harsh turn, hasn't it? Jesus
~ to have a long talk about bad things happening to good people, and bad priests happening to good children, and bad politics stealing away religion from compassionate people. I'll bet he's just as pissed about it as I am... Martha Stewart~I know I'm supposed to hate her, but I think she's interesting. I love that she has this blue blood Connecticut aura about her but she's actually from a blue-collar New Jersey heritage, just like me Ghandi
~the one from whom Martin Luther King and Cesar Chavez got many of their ideas, the source. Linda Ellerbee
~so talented, so smart and funny, and so screwed over by the networks because she doesn't hesitate to say what she thinks. Could she be any cooler?
so I sent you the birth interview at your gmail account.... and here is the D video with Asagi and his way beautiful voice. BTW the song was inspired by The Phantom of the Opera... so pretty...Him and the song :P
ive been having technical difficulties lately like you wouldn't believe, if you look at my comments section... as my webcam, my internet, and my cell phone are all now broken.
im working on it. in either case... if absolute worst comes to worst... you know you'll see me on the 26th... :)
I could always promise that without fear of failing
yeah ive been trying to decide how id work out summertime. without question ive got to work enough there to get back on my feet in france during the start of fall, pay for my plane ticket back, etc... so that complicates things.
i think working in france part time will be way easier now that i know the system, and this time i'll definitely apply for a student visa rather than the TA one
Oh, and I promised her that I would introduce you to The Red Queen She is my latest girl crush. Funny thing, you two share the same birthday and I just think you would really like her.
