Many of our listeners have written in and asked us "What was that song I heard...?" Well, here's a sample of some of the bumpers we play on Steppin' Out: The 12 Step Radio Show. What's our theme? A re-mixed all-instrumental version of "Last Night" by The Strokes.

Heroes
Anyone who has ever reached out their hand to help someone else.
AA Responsibility Pledge:
"I am responsible... When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be there.
And for that, I am responsible."
OA Unity Prayer:
"I put my hand in yours, and together we can do what we could never do alone. No longer is there a sense of hopelessness; no longer must we each depend on our own unsteady willpower. We are all together now, reaching out our hands for power and strength greater than ours, and as we join hands, we find love and understanding beyond our wildest dreams."
CA's Reaching Out:
"I made it into this Program because someone else worked their Twelfth Step on me. Someone passed it on to me. Someone was out there after they got clean and sober, caring about others. I need to never, ever forget that. Had they simply gone on with their lives and forgotten about people like me who were still out there using and suffering, I wouldn't be here today. My gratitude begins with that fact. It is with that gratitude in mind that I reach out to others, especially the newcomers. I need to have them in my life. That is where my spirituality begins." (excerpted from the CA book "Hope, Faith and Courage", Cocaine Anonymous World Services, Inc. Copyright 2003)
NA's Gratitude in Action:
"As we learn to live the principles of Narcotics Anonymous, we learn to give of ourselves in ways we could never have imagined in our active addiction. This selfless giving becomes a living principle when we reach out to lend a hand and help others. We begin to understand that the principle of self-support is at the very heart of our program, and the paradox of our growing willingness to be of service is summed up in a line from our steps and traditions book, It Works: How and Why: 'The more we help others, the more we help ourselves.' Discovering this truth lendsreal meaning to our belief that ?€œwe keep what we have only by giving it away.?€? As we learn to live this program, we find that gratitude is an action, and we put our gratitude into action by offering help and support to our fellow members through service."

"We could wish to be moral, we could wish to be philosophically comforted, in fact, we could will these things with all our might, but the needed power wasn't there. Our human resources, as marshalled by the will, were not sufficient; they failed utterly. Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves." Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 45
Thought to Consider . . .
Willpower ... our will-ingness to use a Higher Power.
*~*~*AACRONYMS*~*~* FAITH For An Instant Trust Him
"Life will take on a new meaning. To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends-- this is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it. Frequent contact with newcomers and with each other is the bright spot of our lives." Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 89
Thought to Consider . . .
Service is spirituality in action.

"Let us never fear needed change. Certainly we have to discriminate between changes for worse and changes for better. But once a need becomes clearly apparent in an individual, in a group, or in AA as a whole, it has long since been found out that we cannot stand still and look the other way." Bill W., Box 1980: The AA Grapevine, July 1965 As Bill Sees It, p. 115
Thought to Consider . . .
We're responsible for the effort - not the outcome.
*~*~*AACRONYMS*~*~* C H A N G E Choosing Honesty Allows New Growth Everyday.
"How shall we come to terms with seeming failure or success? Can we now adjust to either without despair or pride? Can we accept poverty, sickness, loneliness, and bereavement with courage and serenity? The AA answer to these questions about living is 'Yes, all of these things are possible.'" Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 112
Thought to Consider . . .
It works - it really does. Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 88
"There are those in AA whom we call 'destructive' critics. They power-drive, they are 'politickers,' they make accusations to gain their ends-- all for the good of AA, of course! We ought to listen carefully to what they say. Sometimes they are telling the whole truth; at other times, a little truth. If they are talking nonsense, we can ignore it, or else try to persuade them. There are few better means of self-survey and of developing patience than the workouts these usually well-meaning but erratic members so often afford us."
Bill W., Twelve Concepts for World Service, p. 40 As Bill Sees It, p. 215
Thought to Consider . . .
Every problem arrives bearing a gift in its hands.
