12th Tribe, Biography
12th Tribe the West Coats original and one of Christian Hip-Hop pioneers. Throughout 21 years, 4 Albums, Cross Country Tours, Local Rallys, Street Ministering, and many changes and different chapters David Portillo, Founder known as Rapps Galore has stood steadfast to the anointed calling that the Lord gave him when he was 15 years old with spirit of boldness and ability to spread Gods word in a way that was not accepted in the mid 1980s.
12th Tribe, Consist of three Mighty Men of Valor. Founding member David Portillo known as Rapps Galore, Johnny Esparza known as DJ Redeemed, and Santos Smith known as Sound Mind. Each of these men has individual talents and anointed callings in which they have joined forces to be what they are now frontline men for the army of the Lord.
The group name of 12th Tribe comes from the books in the Old Testament of the bible, which speaks of the Tribe of Benjamin in which the Hebrew translation of Benjamin means; Son of my right hand. 12th Tribe also is defined in the bible as Mighty Archers men that fought with their individual bow and arrows. The 12th Tribe was a young group of men that inherited this mighty gift of distinguished courage and fierce determination. Now, in our modern day battles of daily life struggles and spiritual warfare these individuals do not take lightly the name that the Lord appointed them. These four men are well equipped archers that spiritually shoot out their arrows with the words that God has given them, and when those words capture and tug at someones heart they know that the target has been made and a life that has been transformed.
12th Tribe, is not your ordinary Rap Group, they have in many occasions preached, and spoke at many youth conferences and have been on panels at Christian Rap Festivals such as Flavor Fest last November 2005 in Tampa, Florida in which the title was called The Longevity of Christian Hip-Hop. Although, most importantly they have lead thousands of youth throughout their 21 years of ministry to the Lord through there hard hitting music and especially their hard hitting and captivating words and life style.
12th Tribe has created four albums which have sold over 100,000 copies of Tapes and CDs throughout their 21 years of ministry. The following album titles include Knowledge Is the Tree of Life, Livin In Babylon, Gritty, Funk, Residue and their latest album entitled Enter the Tribal Camp and it does not stop here 12th Tribe is in the process of taking the Christian Hip-Hop level to a all new high by creating a new project that will not only be what the young audience is searching for but a message of hope and most importantly from the Lord.
