After the demise of Needleye in December 2006, old friends Duncan and Ray were determined not to let the break-up end their collaboration. The pair spent the next few months experimenting with different compositional ideas, ending up back where Ray's heart lies, with Arnold Schoenberg's Twelve-Tone Method from the 1920s (also known as Serialism or Dodecaphony). They then began writing using Ray's updated version of Schoenberg's extremely dissonant method, which Ray had named the 12 Ton Method in 2004, when he founded a metal band by the same name in order to promote the compositional method that he believed to be the true origin of Metal. Once the first new song had been composed in 2007, they realised that 12 Ton Method had essentially been reborn with a new line-up, and therefore the original band name was re-used.
When drummer, Adrian Erlandsson (ex - Cradle of Filth / The Haunted / At The Gates), heard "Mark These Words" in February 2007, he knew that 12 Ton Method was a band that he had to be involved in. With the addition of the young and talented-far-beyond-his-years bassist, Joe Copcutt, the line-up was complete. Sadly, due to prior commitments and the resulting increase in time constraints, Adrian had no choice but to bow-out after the band's Summer 2007 recording sessions for "The Art of Not Falling". After months of searching for a brave drummer capable of taking over from Adrian, the band were astonished by their luck when they discovered and recruited the young prodigy, Pat Lundy, in November 2007. In June 2008, Pat was headhunted by Rise To Remain, and original 12 Ton Method drummer, Tony Holroyd, took to the throne once more.
12 Ton Method launched its dodecaphonic campaign with the worldwide release of its debut EP "The Art of Not Falling" in February 2008 through Copro Records.
