Like the savoring of an alcoholics first drink of the day, the dream of winning Lotto or ‘pulling a sicky’, Servo embodies the magic of life.
Take a little colour from the early days of Rap, mix it with old-school metal energy and you have the beginnings of a clever attempt at a creative description of some sort.
Servo has been described as ‘Chopper meets Cheech And Chong’, the peoples shit head for the thinking man and the founder of 'Scum-hop' and 'Nu-Karaoke', a blend of 80’s drum beats, synth-bass and Hard Core Punk Rock flavoured with the essence of novelty pop hits, midriff muscle shirts and shit house cult TV heroes.
Pigeon hole Servo? - Some have tried and better men have failed. Servo is equally at home taking part in ‘Doof-Doof’ techno extravaganzas or Metal/Punk bonanzas as is schooling the local community in the ways of ‘staunch-pop’ busking freestyle down the main drag while you do your Saturday morning shop. Ed: I think we got it.

2004 saw the birth of SERVO aka MC Service, a solo project of Alec Withers. The creation came about from the need for AL to get out from behind the drum kit of his ‘main band’ at the time Tempo 38 to unload some fresh baloney and deliver the ‘home truths’. Over the next few years Servo's music and straight-up vocal approach reached the masses and gained in popularity.
Servo has embarked on many shows around New Zealand including tour dates with punk rock icons Tempo 38 in 2004, heavy metal mega-giants Angel Hammer in 2005 and countless one off shows locally and abroad with high profile New Zealand touring acts such as The Bleeders, The Offbeats, 8 Foot Sativa and Minuit.

Servo’s music has been used as soundtrack on important TV shows such as Studentville, Import-X, Performance Car TV, Shortland Street and Home And Away.
Early 2007 saw one time Big Blue Blanket guitarist Greg McColl (aka The GiSM) jump on board to provide a guitar track and a new dynamic to the existing Servo live set. Greg and AL have been playing music together in various projects since 1994 and are good as mates.
However, Servo is much more than two old pals embracing all that is comical about the average" fuck-wit/dipshit", they are indeed a powerful live combination with a set list of hits and the talent and ability to back it up, so I’ve heard.
Interesting SERVO fun-fact:
Servo took part in NZ Idol auditions three years running and was the first artist to be dismissed on the grounds of being “Too Fuckin’ Much”.
The groups live set has been known to include mesmerizing renditions such as New Kids On The Block’s ‘Hangin’ Tough’, Operation Ivy’s ‘Bad Town’ and the theme from popular New Zealand doco/drama ‘Once Were Warriors’. Do not miss the live Servo experience, thousands (and counting) of satisfied Servoid’s & Servette’s cannot be wrong.
In 2005 Hit Your Head Music released the debut Servo album 'Ron Giorgi Park'. The album is the love/hate modern-day mindset, the fighting words and the soundtrack for sweet revenge, not to mention an instant classic. Among the 9 tracks of shit-head beats and bad language the album has a danced up version of the Big Blue Blanket track ‘The Mission’ plus a mandatory 'Featuring' collaboration with fisty-cuffs Napier MC K1 (Khan Ratima) on the track ‘Pop Art’.
The Servo debut recording ‘Ron Giorgi Park’ is available through HIT YOUR HEAD MUSIC and BULLSHIT DIY BURNT CD DISTRIBUTION (BDBCD).
Servo plan to record their Christmas single ‘Holy Smoke (Xmas Dope)’, an anti-drug track, in time for a Christmas Internet release.
