    Icarus Landing's Interests
GeneralMy daughter (Peanut), jokes, fun, thought, warmth, history, politics, dancing, literary fantasy, movies (good), health (me), Hip Hop, travel, learning, debate, House Music, crunchy snow, Breakbeats, PRAHA!, funk-in-da-trunk, camping, helping where I can, languages, swashbuckling ladies in teddies swinging from lace ropes over a fluffy pit of goose feathers, friends, cooking, eating, eating friends, cooking friends and eating them, books, differing cultures, games, slam and eldritch poetry, the words et cetera.
Music It's good. No, really. It's great! Well...maybe not Country. Country pretty much sucks (except Cash). Then so does R&B (not Hip-Hop - different? Hmmmm...), & Pop.......So, actually most music sucks. Only good music is good (even in the above genres) and not homogenized country = R&B = Pop... O.K., influences? Kraftwerk, Afika Bambaataa, Tribe called Quest, Brand Nubians, Digables, Eric B. & Rakhim, Jeru The Damaja, L.L., Wu Tang, Rabbit in the Moon, Mark Farina, LTJ Bukem, Bassbin Twins, Equilii, Seafoam, SpankDJS, E23, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Jean-Michel Jarre, Sven Veth, Radiohead, Bjork, Sigur Ros, Tori Amos, Portishead, Bill Laswell, Nirvana, Tool, Black Flag, Melvins, L7, Ministry, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Howlin' Wolf, Thelonius Monk, Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zepplin, Gary Numan (oops, did I say that with my outside voice?), Zymox, Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Johnny Cash, Red Elvises, Mozart, Bach, Wagner, Grieg, Gershwin.
MoviesHave to admit I fall for the fantastic, surreal, magical, intense, abstract, sensual, plot-driven, explorative, non-movie, cheesy, stupid, hilarious epics. Cover it?
Television??????????? O.K. Stewart, Colbert, & Chapelle when I'm in a place with cable.
Books One flew..., Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, Neuromancer, The Poetic Edas, The Alchemist!, Fingerprints of the Gods, Lord of the Rings, DNA and the Cosmic Serpent, Popul Vuh, Che Guevera A Revolutionary Life, Ghost Wars, Dancing Wu-Li Masters, Unbearable Lightness of Being, Three Musketeers, The Cornelius Chronicles, Goedel Escher and Bach, Egil's Saga, Hamlet's Mill, Hitchiker's Guide, Synchronicity, Gather Darkness, Elegant Universe, Skywatchers, Ramayana, The Alienist, 1984, NOT Dickens. Never Dickens and for Christ's sake NOT The Awakening - Burn the damn thing before your daughter reads it and hates men. It was important in it's time. It's time is over and it's horrible, fatalist, manipulative, spiteful writing that has no place in a decent, teddybear loving world disquising itself as literature.

   Icarus Landing's Blurbs
About me:
I'm not in it for the money but they did offer me a fat paycheck to list on this site. Gotta pay the bills somehow, I suppose...And get out of this beautiful box that I live in occasionally and go on a walkabout. Chile maybe, Prague, Nasa's moon colony , Mongolia, Africa, Antarctica, Scotland, China, Cuba; Anywhere they take fools, closet-romantics, and Peanuts. Friends and family rule my starchart. I don't actually have a starchart but I like the concept...It stinks of hope and abject, terrifying existentialism. Life is good so quit whining. See the roses through the trees and take in the sweet smells of experience and the gifts that life and love have to give.
Who I'd like to meet:
Someone deadly serious. Deadly, frighteningly serious!.....or yer Mama. Oh yeah, and I would love to meet Vaclav Havel for coffee and Jazz, Gary Gygax to give him a critical hit upside his head, Ben Franklin for a pint and debate, Bjork to ask how her egg is doing, and Martin Luther King Jr because he was right!.

Yes... I'm taking over the world with the clever use of massage. Get people all relaxed and they will agree to all my devilish planning... Like buying me cookies. Hmm... cookies.

Haha, that article's hilarious, just read it. I think it's funny how Russians think expats learning the native language is a bad thing. If they wanted their language to spread more, they should do it through increased cultural activities, humanitarian, business, etc, not through some gov't program.

Dude, I wasn't saying Russians were pro-Semitic, just that they didn't kill as many as the Nazis. The big purges in Russia were economic based. And also, as I recall, I was telling you about the pogroms, where they'd just force the Jews to live in such a region of Russia, which the called the pogrom. That's why there are so many Russians in Israel, because they're treated like the shit in Russia.

"Autumnal"

Soon we will plunge ourselves into cold shadows,
And all of summer's stunning afternoons will be gone.
I already hear the dead thuds of logs below
Falling on the cobblestones and the lawn.

All of winter will return to me:
derision, Hate, shuddering, horror, drudgery and vice,
And exiled, like the sun, to a polar prison,
My soul will harden into a block of red ice.

I shiver as I listen to each log crash and slam:
The echoes are as dull as executioners' drums.
My mind is like a tower that slowly succumbs
To the blows of a relentless battering ram.

It seems to me, swaying to these shocks, that someone
Is nailing down a coffin in a hurry somewhere.
For whom? -- It was summer yesterday; now it's autumn.
Echoes of departure keep resounding in the air.

-Baudelaire

So there.
