About me:
Despite the encroaching madness of the world, I try to keep a healthy joie de vivre from spiraling into cynicism and disgust. Just learned that the vanilla flower is technically an orchid -- who knew? Prefer not to categorize, analyze, or advertize, but if you must pigeon-ize, imagine: New England-yankee bred and tempered (by winter's wrath and stoic Catholic obeisance/prep school tribulations) tho’ generously leavened in later adolescence with idealistic counterculture from the left coast; big fan of Mcganahan Skjellifetti back in the day (does anyone still listen to the 'band beyond description'?)... Streetwise but short of jaded, generous to the genuine; possessed of a sterling formal education, I maintain admiration for a person who uses the verb forms "to lay" and "to lie" correctly. Women sometimes compliment my looks (but of course that's always within the beholder's eye, and probably has just as much to do with character as superfice;) some may dig my rapier-like wit (if they're bright,) and appreciate a sardonic wisecrack lobbed across the bow if they're paying attention (and can take-, as well as dish-it.) Co-ordinated enough to get paid teaching a racquet sport, I’m forever fascinated by the drama of human competition, the savage grace and beauty of athletic endeavor in all its forms and facets; I am, unapologetically red-blooded and male, but as deeply affected by film and fine art as I'm rivited by fourth and goal2go -- if you've got the right perspective you might perceive them on the same continuum. (To the faithful brethren of Fenway, I raise my voice aloft with thee: forever 'Yuck the Fankees!' Pinch me, please - did the '04 Idiots' still win...?) Definitely more of a dog- than cat-lover but I don't mind if a scratch in the nape of the neck sets you purring. I like the nebbiola grape a lot, it's peppery! Can't stand elitist tendencies inherent in the majority of academic populations, even though, snows ago, I majored in something as esoteric and intelekchewal as 'philosophy of religion'... I love sushi and Sierra Nevada, savoring Sapphires served like a naughty whisper (filthy as batshit); dark chocolate and peanut butter; a girl who drives a stick and maybe wields one o'er the felted slate with an elegance most keen and wicked... May that I delight in the sultry spy of your discerning eye, 'transfixiate' on the sway and switch of your hips, and fall asleep with the tingling of our last kiss lingering softly upon my lips...Who I'd like to meet:
I tend to like dry, subtle humor more than over-the-top -- though some slapstick and pure shtick (a la Jack Black, Peter Sellers, or the rhino scene in Ace Ventura II) will still set me off. On the downside (potentially, I suppose,) I'm not terribly well-versed in the opera, nor do I pretend more than cursory comprehension of the intricacies of macro-economics. On the popular front, I do root vociferously for sports teams -- in the pro leagues at least (especially the aforementione Bo'Sox and, perhaps paradoxically, my Yew Nork Football Giants!) Whether this will cast me from contention for your favor, I guess you'd have to tell me, but I am hoping to find someone who shares a broad spectrum of interests (presumably a few they're passionate about,) has backbone enough to maintain and express an opinion (articulately would be nice... eloquently would be dreamy!) -- yet generous and curious enough to allow others the same. I do not dwell in my parents basement, nor would I ever attend anything remotely resembling a Star Trek convention. While I have little patience for many 'New Age-y' behaviors (I drive my turbo-charged jalopy as fast as prudence allows -- with the stereo, as oft' as not, rite-crank't,) I do still believe in the admonishment supposedly uttered at the treaty table by Chief Seattle: "The earth does not belong to us; we belong to the earth." So I would probably NOT get along well with someone who was a big fan of the current federal administration, who tends to wear a lot of make-up as a matter of daily regimen (nix the hyper-tweezed eyebrows pleeze,) or who considered a dude who primarily gets his protein from fish and eggs vaguely 'weird' or somehow less manly than the more conventionally carnivorous. Bohemian Cambridge pubs over "clubbing it up". Weakness for really good informal restaurants (East Coast Grill, Chez Henri, Hammersly's Bistro.) Northeast Kingdom, VT; Paris was an excruciating visit the time I went (more beautiful and romantic than I had even imagined...) Dublin and the UK were also spectacular. Always wanted to see the Pyramids, Brasil, Australia... For boob-tubing I prefer Sunday nite HBO over most reality/sitcom drivel. In no particular order: Thomas Mann, Camus, Poe, Nabakov; blue-banna pancakes; sushi, bonsai trees, Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Vincent Van, Georgia O', almost all Mamet/Hitchcock; English Patient, Royal Tenenbaums, Dog Day Afternoon, Five Easy Pieces, Blue Velvet, Mullholland Drive, 8 &1/2, Wings of Desire, Magnolia, Brazil, Soy Cuba; the New Yorker, weekly, and the Times, ante meridian, over a critical infusion of sometimes hazelnut java...Details
