13 ON formed in 2002 and hailing from the Mississippi Gulf Coast became known early on for their energetic and entertaining live shows. In early 2005 the band released it's debut CD of all original music and within a few weeks were approached to sign a promotional contract with Budweiser to be the Southeast Region Budweiser True Music Band.
Over the course of the next year the band played many shows in support of their Budweiser relationship and continued to gain the attention of the local music dignitaries. While hurricane Katrina temporarily put a hold on the band’s progress, the time away from playing and the trials that each member and their families had to withstand only served to strengthen the band and increase their desire to get their music out to the public.
13 ON was named to headline both “Rock” nights at the first major public event to be held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum after the storm, a two week annual festival that attracts numerous national and regional acts. Prior to the festival Budweiser and local radio station WCPR 97.9 held four weeks of competitions in order to pick four local bands that would open for 13 ON at the festival.
13 ON were to complete their Budweiser commitment in July of 2006 but not before being asked to play outdoors at the Coast Coliseum once again for a portion of the sold out crowd at the Lynyrd Skynyrd & 3 Doors Down concert.
Following this high point they immediately turned their creative energies towards writing the material for their second album. As the body of work came together something was becoming clear to the band members. Their original sound and songwriting had changed. The new songs had a more cohesive, deeper and edgier sound. The energy of the new songs was palpable. The emotional commitment of the original album was still evident in the new songs but now the emotion hit you in the gut not just the heart. The new songs flat out rocked, and this made the band dig in with every thing they had to get ready for the studio.
In late October, 2007 the band headed for Nashville. They we’re invited to record their new album in ex-Doobie Brother, Michael McDonald’s private studio with one of the most in demand engineers in Music City. The band hit the recording process running. They had the songs well rehearsed and we’re ready to get them down. 13 ON had high expectations for the songs but the quality of final product has surprised everyone involved with the project. This is an album that is likely to catch a lot of people by surprise, those that have known and supported the band since its start but also those who have not. It is scheduled for release in January of 2007.
After recording the album and while the disc was still undergoing final production the band headed up to Birmingham, Alabama were they were tapped to play at the Verizon Wireless Music Center prior to the Journey and Def Leppard concert. The show went off without a hitch and the band came home knowing they just completed one more step toward their destination.
The band is currently busy booking shows for the coming year and will embark on a regional tour in support of their new CD. Check back to see new dates as they are added and to stay up to date with the general happenings of the band.
