13Wyde's Blog

  • Corktown. Nuff said.

Do I really need to type the rest out? It looks pretty plain to me. ;)

Seriously though, yet again... it's Jeff Hyde writing yet another note. Even though it's just past noon I'm pretty worn out and am still trying to figure out what to type here. Updates?

Well we're playing at The Coktown Pub on February 13th! I'm sure most of you reading this know it because it's posted up there in the events area and we keep posting up a status change with the info. Just to clarify the doors open at 8:00 pm and it's $10 at the door. You have to state you're coming to see us (13Wyde!) and then enjoy yourself! Of course the event is 19+ only. We don't have an exact time confirmation of when we actually go on, but ask us the day/night of and we will update you because that's when we find out.

In other news... Mark Gemmell left! In further news... Mark Gemmell came back! Lol. What else, you might ask? Well I guess I can talk about myself for once.

I had the pleasure of bringing a new 8x10 150 lb cabinet and 700 watt header down into Mark's basement a week ago- beautiful piece of equipment, I'd like to say my bass sounds so clean and punchy now. Mark Gemmell also acquired a new wireless patch cord (same brand as mine! Just a different frequency). I hope you all know what this means. It means the next show is going to kick more ass than originally estimated! About a 9.6 on a kick-ass meter!

We posted a new raw footage video courtesy of David Barnes for posting it up... and Patty & Beth for holding the camera! Maybe there will be more since we recorded more than just those 2 songs, but we have to go over the footage, but check it out, pretty good quality all things considered.

So in conclusion to everything said, this is getting to be a short note I see, we would like to say... come out to the Corktown Pub on the 13th, check us out, the shows is going to be so kick ass that the Pub might have trouble recovering unless they have us back! We hope to see everyone there!

With that I leave you with a music comedy moment of history that, even though it doesn't apply to this note very much, it just needs to be said:

  • Lions and Tigers and 13Wyde Live, Oh my!

    Current mood:artistic

Cheesy titles for notes... that's what this job is all about!

So I might forfeit the name... it seems to be catching on in the worst sense possible. "Hyde of Wyde"... band enjoys now calling me The Assman. Good Seinfeld reference, I know. Well, regardless, it's Jeff Hyde of 13Wyde taking the time to drop a line!

What's new this month as January has well-turned the corner? Shows... and quite a few of them to say the least! As well we have a new member... which makes this band complete!

Let's start with the shows, shall we?

    The Meeting House
    Doors: 6:30
    13Wyde: 8:00-8:20
    Cost: $7

Proceeds go to sending people to Ecuador under missionary intentions to help the people there. 20 Minute set.

    Friday, January 22nd, 2010

    Club Absinthe
    Doors: 5:00
    13Wyde: 10:00-11:30 Window

Selling tickets for this directly from the band, and we still have plenty to go around. I'm currently running a personal deal where if you bring two people with you, your ticket is only $6 and your friends pay $12 each... but hey it cuts your ticket cost in half! Hope to see you all there! 30 Minute set minus set up.

    Saturday, February 13th, 2010
    175 Young Street, Hamilton
    The Corktown Pub
    Doors: Unknown, Updated February 1st
    13Wyde: Unknown, Updated February 1st
Cost: $10 at the door, state you are coming to see 13Wyde.

This one is a little more important to us. It's a contest/challenge related to the Spring Music Festival. This is the qualifier round and for every show related to this challenge we need to bring out 20 people at the least. You pay at the door and state which band you're there to see, in this case 13Wyde. The end prize is pretty grand including a cash prize (that seems to possibly be rather large), a photo shoot, playing with an established artist, getting CD artwork done for us professionally, website redesigned professionally, radio air time and interviews, headlining the Spring Music Festival, etc. so bringing out people is VERY important for this! All time updates will be on February 1st. 25 Minute Set.

That's what we have for shows so far and there are more to come, possibly in the Toronto and Hamilton area.

On top of that we have ourselves a lead guitarist. I'd like to introduce Mark Gemmell to everybody! He's the final piece of the puzzle for the band, and a damn good one too. This would mark the true beginning of the band's life i'd say, despite all the preemptive work on their music. The band is finally solid and ready to rock.

If I'm wrong and the band happens to suck royally, you have every right and full permission to tell me to quit and stop dreaming... and maybe just commit to Guitar Hero instead or something.

Also Mark Graham managed to take some pictures of us all at band practice... because he's a cold-blooded stalker and we all know it. :P If you haven't tuned into my sense of humour- I'm joking, but yes! We may have some picture updates coming.

Other than that our set lists have been written for the first two, we're pretty damn tight on them too!

For now that's what we have as an update! Thanks for checking it out and I hope to see you all soon at shows! I WILL be walking through the crowds in certain ones so you better be there! :D

    -Jeff Hyde & 13Wyde
  • Lights! Camera! Action!

Hey everyone it's that monthly blog I'm writing... aaaagain!

Of course it's Jeff Hyde of 13Wyde coming at you, I believe the a.k.a there is "The Hyde of Wyde".

Alright what are we talking here? Bang! Shows. It's 1100% positive we have 100 tickets to sell for a show we have at The Absinthe, that's 233 king Street East, on the 22nd of January! You have to see us to buy the tickets! You must... even if we smell really funny or we're really ugly to look at (not saying any names) ya gotta come to us and we'll sell them to you. The tickets are $12 and this is our first show in a year! 365 days! More actually, the last show was in September 2008! Holy crap!

If you really want to come support us for our first live show in over a year, then just give us a shout, call me (Jeff Hyde 289 441 1966) and inquire! In fact i personally have a deal going on for ticket buyers here.

You buy a ticket from me personally and get your butt to see me... and you pull out some whips and get two friends to buy tickets from me too? (You can just show up with all the money, doesn't matter, i don't ACTUALLY need to see your friends haha) I will cut your ticket price in half and out of my own wallet I will put in the difference.

Yeah that's right... you bring two friends and get 3 tickets off of me? Your ticket is only $6 and the extra comes from my personal savings. So these tickets are actually flying a little faster than you think, I have a list of about 20 some guests at the moment and we just got the tickets yesterday! (Thursday, December 17th).

So come on out and meet me or anyone else in the band and buy one, we promise a damn good show! Meanwhile you can pay $15 at the door, but by buying tickets from us you help us achieve a few goals. As it's going the promoter and host for the show (Supernova's Ginger Martini) has made us a deal. if we sell 60 tickets we get a free booking in any city that they run shows for and if we sell 80 we headline THIS event! So we need YOUR support so help us achieve the goal!

Meanwhile in a hushed tone here we are almost 99% sure we are playing a show on the 15th of January for a charity event at The Meeting House in Oakville. You can check it out if you like, the fee is $7 and proceeds go to helping a team of people go to Ecuador on a missionary mission to help the population down South. So any contributions to that would be great, we ourselves are paying our way in to help them out. The sets will likely be different so you should really check out both shows if you can make your way between both places on the two Fridays!

Doors for the 15th are at 7:00 pm
Doors for the 22nd are at 5:00 pm

We are practicing our butts off for all of you so let's make this worth while and celebrate the new year with 13Wyde & others!

What else is new? Still writing music... we have an entire new song that has to be worked out with the guys so we won't be playing it any time soon, but in the meantime I've been doing a little tinkering with my bass and guitar to make another song... so eventually you'll be hearing something new that's not even recorded! A-maz-ing work is going into it, though!

Anyway! Good stuff! That's about everything, I hope to have a great update in January.

Oh wait how could I forget! Merry Christmas everyone! And have a GREAT New Year! We wish you all well and hope to see your faces in the crowds for 2010! Rock on!

Don't miss our shows... they're killer... literally ;)

  • Writing MORE Music?! Update!

    Hey everybody!

It's Jeff, again, and I'm bringing you yet another update. So far the band's been getting tighter, we should be out soon enough... everything's great. On a personal level I managed to buy a 5-string bass and get those last two songs down that I didn't have in the last blog... everything is going pretty smooth!

"What's this new music you speak of, stranger?" You might ask with odd spiteful glances at me because I'm the one member of the band that wasn't here for the creation of all the OTHER music.

In fact some of you may currently look like this:

Well if you really want an explanation here you go:

Well I was fiddling around with my guitar(s) for the past week and I started writing some things. Eventually I had a song... actually it took 6 days. I sent it to Marky Mark (Unfortunately no, not Mr. Wahlberg) who liked it! We haven't played around with it yet... but it looks like 13Wyde might be adding a 23rd song to the list already so soon after the second CD!

That's right! We are writing more music as you read this very sentence! Eventually I'll...

Ok wait wait wait... buddy, who let you into the blog? And do you have to be so rude as to interrupt me mid-sentence? Isn't it bad enough that on the 3rd level of Starfox 64 you interrupt the guys from disarming a bomb, now you have to get all up in random peoples' blogs too? Also... uh... we're 13Wyde... not Star Fox? Unless I... missed a meeting, guys? And I'm sorry... but we already wrote something out in full. It's too late, you failed Wolf.

Well you damn well better believe it, Starwolf! We're musicians- it's what we do! Kick video game Wolf ass! Seriously I don't think that's actually what musicians do... but I happen to do so in my spare time.

So what else is up? Nothing really... just the band is getting really tight, especially when Kevin makes the time to come out. Soon enough we'll be out there bringing the music to your ears.

Anyway... more will be revealed in time! I just figured I'd keep everyone up to date.

    Until next time, keep rocking.

    -Jeff & 13Wyde
