**THIS IS A FAN PAGE, and I am in no way associated with Common Children nor am I one of the band members. I just can't get over their music ;-)** Common Children was a band that emerged during the 90's grunge scene. The bands first CD Skywire, presented the group as a "Nirvana-like" trio as the CD contains gutteral screaming and rusty vocals mixed with grunge guitar and erratic drumlines. Their second CD Delicate Fade was a major movement away from their initial sound and into the realm of serene melody and catchy lyrics. Their third CD The Inbetween Time is somewhat of an anomaly. It is highly experamental and otherworldly and is neither like Skywire or Delicate Fade although elements of each exist in this emotionaly appealing album. The band broke up nearly five years ago, and their music is incredibly hard to come by at this point. If you are interested in their music, please contact me and I will try and locate a CD for you.
Of all the rock n' roll I enjoyed during the 90's I say without hesitation that Common Children is the most underrated band of that decade. It remains an utter tragedy that their material continues to be virtually impossible to locate even on the internet! Hopefully this page can serve to open up their music to listeners old and new.
The live album posted here (Thanks Rita G.!) is an extremely limited edition given away as a Delicate Fade promo at a concert in Denver, Colorado in 97' IIRC. The sound quality is terrible and does no justice to their actual live sound - which was nigh studio perfect every time I saw them. It is a nice collector's piece, however, and includes some humorous audience interaction as well as Marc's "noise" solos (performed by manipulating droning feedback through his effects pedals). The only raw element of their live performances not captured was Hampton's shoeless drumming, heh!
Last Time out- great song. If its not too much trouble, I would love to see Indiscreet on the playlist. That's my all time favorite CC song. Thanks again for making this page.
why can't their be more than four songs? #10 on the delicate fade album is so good not to mention #2 and #14 o my gosh and we make another myspace for some more of a seclection?
Hey all you common children fans! I have been in love with Marc Bryds music since I saw Common Children at the Roxy in LA back in 97. For those of you who don't know he is still making beautiful music with his instrumental ambient band Hammock. He has two full length CD's and an EP and is actually getting known in the world of "ambient" music. Its amazing music to pray or relax to, and is actually quite profound. They have a myspace too. Also after Marc Byrd married Christine Glass they released one album together under the name "Glassbyrd." The CD is incredible and includes Marc's version of "God of Wonders" which he wrote (even though the Third Day guy sang it on the City on a Hill CD). I think Glassbyrd has a fan myspace. CHECK THEM OUT!
