143rd SOG Scenario Paintball Team Our Sponsor watchyourbackproductions.com was writen about in Action Pursuit Games magazine (Dec. 09, Vol.23, No.12, Page 73). On stands now! Posted at 4:06 AM Sep 24, 2009 from Twitter view more
The 143rd SOG was first formed on January 20, 2007 by Mike Amundson, Leon Raquinio, Patrick Amundson and Carl Corbett.
There had been many friendly games leading up to this formation. Carl and Mike had started out with the idea in 2005 of playing paintball on the weekends as a way of bringing co-workers together to blow off some steam, create comradery and legally shoot a manager or two.
The first game was held on a Friday night at Portland Paintball. It was fun but we realized by the second game that we didnt like speedball or the field at Portland Paintball. With most of us being ex-military, we decided to move the games outside and change the format to woodsball/scenario paintball. Eventually we whittled our group down to a core group who shared a lot of the same beliefs and who enjoyed each others company. From this group, the idea of a paramilitary paintball team was conceived and the eventual first team was subsequently born.
Our original concept consisted of a philosophical structure held up by three pillars.
- Our first pillar is that a small highly motivated well armed, mobile, independant and disciplined tactical paintball team can have great impact and change the course of a large scenario game through guise, tactics and force of will.
- Our second pillar is to uphold personal and unit honor above all else and in all things we do, even in the face of defeat on the field of play. At no time should any member ever bring shame apon them selves or the team through the actions of unsportsman like conduct.
- Our third and final pillar is the bonds of friendship that bind us, in that no seed of distrust or malice should ever be sewn, all members must vote on the admitance of new members and large changes to the team, one vote against will close the process.
The etymology of our team's name derived from two places, the first being 143rd which is the street where our first home field was and the impound yard of our one time mutual employment as Tow Truck Drivers and secondly SOG (MACV-SOG, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observation Group) which is the U.S. Military Unit we decided to emulate, honor and pay homage to. As a side note you will see either an A or B on our patch's, this device denotes which detachment a player belongs to.
Much has changed sense we started but those three ideas are a constant guide for us. In July of 2007 we lost two of our original plank owners when Mike and his son Patrick moved to North Dakota, subsequently starting there own paintball team and our first branch off team (143rd SOG Det. Bravo). There has been some new blood to the SOG as well. Prior to Mike and Patrick leaving we tapped three new members Jay Clark, Ford Kendall, and Mike Barber who ended up not working out. But Jay and Ford destinquished themselves at our second SuperGame (SG34) and have proven to be excellent additions to the SOG. In 2008 we faced our third and fourth Super Games (SG35 & SG36) and walked away with Scenario Team Victory Plaques from both. At the end of Super Game 35 we tapped Katie Rowe to our ranks, Katie has been lugging around our JCS rocket launcher all year and has been successfully tested and proven in the fires of SG35 & SG36.
It's now 2009 and I'm very happy to announce that whatchyourbackproductions.com (The makers of the re-usable Annihilator paintball grenade) have agreed to sponsor us for 2009.

The morning of May 23, 1970 was busy and stressful as ten Air American
pilots readied themselves for the most memorable and possibly dangerous
flight of their lives. Their mission was to fly secret information to
the American forces patrolling the Mekong Delta River and Jungle. These
secrets were not only vital to winning the war but also held secrets to
boosting human strength agility and reflexes. The first part of their
hazardous flight went smoothly and the tense pilots made the mistake of
relaxing, and then the worst happened. Out of the jungle the ten pilots
were shot out of the sky causing them to lose control of their planes
and landing in the jungle. The loud crashes and screeching monkeys
alerted the patrolling American forces that their Air America pilots
were no longer coming to help them. Unfortunately, the crash also
caught the eyes and ears of the Vietcong and NVA forces that were out
to destroy the Americans. Both sides had their armies ready to go out
into the jungle to either rescue or capture the injured Air America
pilots.
While the American forces and the Vietcong were making their way to
find the pilots, or more importantly, the secrets the pilots are
guarding, they never suspected the danger that both armies were walking
into. Making their way up the river was a third party who was also very
interested with finding the pilots, the French Montagnard. They had, in
fact, already found one of the ten pilots and had gotten a hold of his
secret, super human strength. Using this powerful secret to make
themselves untouchable, they use their boat to make their way up river
to find the pilots and to destroy the other two factions of the war.

I dont know about the rest of you guy's but I cant wait to use The Annihilator at SG37. This should be so freaking cool with all the bunkers and buildings that are supposed to be on that field this year.
