Thanks so much for finding my "Take Heart Awareness Cause"
page and for suppporting the American Heart Association & American Stroke Assocation.
Heart disease is the number 1 killer for men and women. Stroke is the number 3 killer and number 1 is long term disability.
My mom and I are caregivers to my father who had a massive hemmoraghic stroke in 1998.
Starting in 1999, I wanted to bring my personal crusade of heart disease and stroke to a new level of
awareness, in a unique way to the general public. My awareness cause was formed in 2005.
Since then I have received local and national attention by the American Heart Association
and American Stroke Association. I continue to work as an advocate for both Heart and
Stroke, and as a caregiver advocate. Heart Disease runs in my mothers family and stroke on my fathers.
As a musician, a portion of all my CDs sold are donated to the AHA for research
and education programs. Buy purchasing one, you automatically donate to the cause.
Please read more at my website: www.mai-ling.net
and at the myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/144057190
I will be keeping updates and posting information I receive from the AHA.
~ mai-lng ms. mai-ling www.myspace.com/frncs Mai-Ling formed the “Take Heart Awareness Cause” in 2005 to help bring her personal crusade of helping create more awareness of heart disease and stroke to the public forefront.
She and her parents are spokesmen for the AHA and ASA. NEWS:
Stroke Connection Featured Article in March/April 2007
Check out the great article in Stroke Connection magazine about
Mai-Ling's father his life as a magician before his stroke and current,
the family, An interview with Mai-Ling and her mom, plus a side feature
article about Mai-Ling and her music.
Stroke Connection is a magazine published by the American Stroke Association that is availble for free. It provides inspiration stories for survivors and caregivers, information and resources. It has 200,000 subscribed readers nationwide.
If you are stroke or a heart survivor...a close surviver (caregiver) or an advocate... please comment and lets inspire.
Mai-Ling is pioneering the genre of Alternative-Classical music; taking classical piano to new level giving it a fresh sound of the traditional and the current trend of rock, pop, alternative. Performing a program of original music.
A portion of the profits of all her CDs are donated to the American Stroke and Heart Association. Mai-Ling uses guidelines made by the ASA to help raise awareness in preventing heart disease and to know the warning signs of a stroke. Heart disease and stroke has hit her personally. On her mom's side she has dealt with the deaths of massive heart attacks of relatives; on her father's side, three generations of stroke survivors, including her father. In 1998 he suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke. Changing their life as a family but cutting her father's professional magic career to a halt. With the advance of the education and medical knowledge the stroke triage at the local hospital in which her father was at, saved his life even if it meant having cranial surgery.
Following intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy in- and outpatient, allowed him to regain his
balance and motor coordination enough to come home. With dedication and love from Mai-Ling and her mom, they have worked hard to give him a good quality of life to enjoy his love of show business though his daughter's music career. Mai-Ling continues to work from home and perform in the region as well as, care for her father with her mom. She has used this experience to gain a new perspective on life and with the knowledge of preventions and symptoms you can save your life or someone you love.
Since 2003, she has donated over $1000 to the American Stroke Association by donating a portion of every CD
sold and through fundraising efforts to raise awareness about stroke and heart disease (stroke awareness event 2006). Just by purchasing a CD you'll get the guidelines that she follows by the ASA to help you know how to save your life or someone else’s. Learning that Heart & Stroke disease are the #1 killer among women, more are die from heart disease and stroke than from all forms of cancer, including breast cancer. By purchasing a CD you automatically contribute to the cause. None of her CDs or songs are available at any digital downloading stores.
Her work as advocate has become recognized by the national organization and the American Heart & Stroke Association nominated and awarded her the “American Heart & Stroke Hero” Award. For her "outstanding effors to create a healthier community, safe from the devastion of heart disease and stroke."
Her family was also featured in the 2006 American Heart Assication Annual Report. Representing the American Stroke Association section. Mai-Ling was also featured in the Fundrasing section of the report, for her unique way of reaching awareness to the general public and raising funds for research and education programs.
At performances (along with her Mom and Dad helping), Mai-Ling brings materials provided by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to give out to people who buy her CDs and sign up for the Go Red For Women Movement. She has recently started working with the American Diabetes Association to help with the fight of heart disease and stroke. People with Diabeties are the highest group afflicted with stroke.
Mai-Ling is the first and currently the only artist who outfits her CDs with life saving information. As well as, includes inserts provided by the AHA & ASA in the packaging, besides donating a portion of the proceeds for Research and Education programs.

A Note from Mai-Ling As a Go Red For Women and Heart & Stroke
Association advocate I encourage all women to love your heart.
Heart disease isn't just a man's disease. It is equally devastating to women. Heart Disease is now the leading cause of death for American women. Many women believe that cancer is more of a threat, but they're wrong. Nearly twice as many women in the United States die of heart disease and stroke as from all forms of cancer, including breast cancer.
So love your heart. If you don't love your heart and
it stops, you'll die. My new moto to everyone is:
"A heart attack can kill you in seconds, a stroke can disable you in seconds."
With our horomones and stress of the world today, some heart attacks can be mistaken for simple anxiety and indigestion. If you feel you are having symptoms of a heart attack call 911 and get to a hospital.
You don't want to find yourself unable to get emergency help. Even if it is not a heart attack, at least you played it safe. There are some new tests out there letting you know if you have the marker for the genetic trait.
Stroke symptoms can be different with anyone, depending on where the initial stroke happen. Symptoms include: weakness and/or numbness on one side, drooping of your face, slurred speech, diffculty walking, standing or balancing (and more). Call 911. Stroke, just like heart attacks is an emergency. It is the leading cause of disability.
It is all very scary. I know first hand how scary it is, and I have embraced
the knowledge to help me in the future. With heart disease on my mom's
side and stroke on my dad's. I live life with knowledge.

Inspired by her mother, who has been a supporter of the American Heart Association for over 40 years. "Take Heart <3frncs" Cause and "Take Time, Take Charge, Take Heart" are owned by Mai-Ling.
