    After eight years fronting Soul Coughing, Mike Doughty launched his solo career. In 2005, Doughty signed with ATO Records, an independent label founded by Dave Matthews; his first full-band album, Haughty Melodic, went Top 5 at Triple-A radio. Through it all, Doughty has maintained a widely read blog (mikedoughty.com/blog) that chronicles his unique shows, international travels, and creative endeavors. He’s currently writing a memoir, recording an electronic album entitled Dubious Luxury, and working on a photo book about Eritrea’s capital city of Asmara, for Yeti Books. He also recently published a play, Ray Slape is Dead, in 24 by 24: The 24 Hour Plays Anthology, alongside Terrence McNally and Theresa Rebeck.

In 2002, Mike Doughty released a limited-edition live album, Smofe + Smang: Live In Minneapolis. It sold out very quickly, and has been a highly sought-after collector's piece ever since. Now, by popular demand, Mike is re-releasing an abridged version of the album, called Half Smofe. It's on sale now, only from Mike's online store.

My name is Mike Doughty. I'm a singer/songwriter. I live in Brooklyn.

I'm a blogger and photographer, too: go read it at mikedoughty.com/blog. (you can read the blogs here, too.)

I've also written a book of poetry, Slanky and a bunch of plays for The 24 Hour Plays, taken naked pictures for SuicideGirls.com of the fabulous tattooed model Twwly, wrote an Aquaman story for DC Comics' Bizarro World, and among some other music writing, had a piece included in the Da Capo Press Best Music Writing series.

My album Haughty Melodic, got played on the radio a whole lot, and was on the TV shows Grey's Anatomy and Veronica Mars.

And yeah, I used to be "The Guy From Soul Coughing". I quit the band in 2000, against the advice of every sensible person I knew, and took off in a rental car (9000 miles by myself on my first tour) to be a roving acoustic-izer.
