Description: How have composers been affected by war? How do the emotional effects of war play out in their compositions? How have different composers influenced each other when dealing with the topic of war? Paul Phillips of Brown University will address these questions on January 31. He will explore music as a medium to convey the spirit and emotions of war in an unforgettable ICO Conversations concert that applies not only to the past, but to the present as well.

Description: Buster Keaton’s silent film The General presents the story of a southern Confederate train engineer pursuing two great loves – his train “The General” and the woman he loves, Anabelle Lee. The ICO and the IMA collaborate to present a screening of this film with live orchestral accompaniment, featuring Carl Davis’ original score composed for the film. Movie buffs and music lovers can see these two genres together on stage in their original formats of silent film and the theater orchestra of the early 20th century.
