Bio
DEBUT SOLO CD OUT NOW! Featuring works by nine contemporary Irish composers. Available from: www.isabelleoconnell.com www.cdbaby.com www.amazon.com “....from the trad meets avant-garde of Seóirse Bodley’s The Narrow Road to the Deep North, to the madcap montage of Jennifer Walshe’s becher, and the post-minimalist washes of Donnacha Dennehy’s Reservoir.” The Irish Times (Aug. 20th, 2010) “To all this diverse music Isabelle O’Connell brings great imagination and flair, as well as technical assurance. The recording is a fine one and nothing impedes admiration for this imaginative selection.” Jonathan Woolf, www.musicweb-international.com ...... Originally from Dublin and currently based in New York, Isabelle is a classically-trained pianist who's solo performances have taken her around the United States, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, France, Germany, Italy and Ireland. While she likes playing Beethoven and Liszt, she really loves going beyond the traditional rep, playing new or 'alternative' classical music and will improvise, pluck, strum, scrape, sing, whistle and knock the insides of the instrument any chance she gets. She also loves collaborating with other musicians, artists, poets, dancers.... She has played with the Crash ensemble and Alarm Will Sound and has performed with Meredith Monk and John Adams amongst others. She regularly premieres and commissions new works from contemporary composers. When not playing, Isabelle likes to climb things, dance and ride her bike around NYC. Hi Isabelle.
Great playing on your site - and in real life! Just letting you know that I will be playing in NY city with a heavy contemp. jazz
group called white rocket. feb 26th in Barbes. It would be great if you could make it.
Keep up the great work.
Regards, Greg
