Ensemble Craft was born in 1993 when a handful of performances and workshops were done to explore the feasibility of forming an ensemble which played original music, and worked both inside and outside the conventional culture of the concert hall. In the early days the approach attempted to offer music that was meant to be "no more than the notes on the page" for the enjoyment of the audience. The initial project work was also based around a core principle of evolution and development with an intention for performances to avoid the isolation from the audience that most classical chamber groups seem to endorse. The Ensemble Craft project worked towards changing the very stringent "designated distance" from which the audience may listen to music in certain performance situations. Ensemble Craft's performances are meant to be music for pure entertainment value which shares its ethos with the culture of court jesters. Originally only a few ideas were explored but in a short time the repertoire for what has now become "Minstrel Party" developed. Various incarnations of the group over the next few years followed, and we're currently working towards a second recording. The full "Brief History" of Ensemble Craft is in the above blog. .. .. ..
