    Mark's Interests
GeneralEverything. Particularly that which helps me understand me and you. All of you. Nature and the universe. Understanding is at the heart of everything wonderful. _____________________________________________________________________________ Also those things that in some way vibe you ... music, laughter, great food, good stories, the right group of people, the right substances in the right context, and such.
MusicJimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Mark Farina, Miles Davis, Adam Freeland, PFunk, Ella Fitzgerald, Pink Floyd, Jurassic 5, Tenacious D, and many many more. These are some favorites that come to mind.
MoviesAll Kurasowa, Melvin goes to dinner, Roger Doger, Boondock Saints, The Secretary, Eternal sunshine on the spotless mind/adaptation/being john malkovich, All Stanley Kubrick including Barry Lyndon which doesn't get enough props, Trois Coulers - esp Rouge, Being There, Day For Night, all Bunuel, His Girl Friday, Igby goes down, City of God, Fist Full of Dollars, Grave of the Fireflies, Harold and Maude, House of Yes, Intolerable Cruelty, Network, Billy Wilder flix esp Sunset Boulevard, Gosford Park, Rules of the Game, Sex and Lucia, Talk to Her, Children of Paradise, Cinema Paradiso, Chushingura, Spirited Away, this could go on forever ... I like lots of movies. I try to avoid movies I don't like, but I increasingly get the feeling they outnumber the good ones. Thanks be to Netflix for helping me find the diamonds in the rough.
TelevisionI have netflix instead of television - but television is better on DVD anyways. There wasn't enough worthwhile on the tube anymore. Family Guy, 24, Coupling (British version), Chapelle Show, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
BooksStranger in a Strange Land, Ender's Game, Arcadia, Diamond Age, The Illuminatus Trilogy, Steppenwolf, Lost Horizon, the structure and function of scientific revolutions, and numerous other books some potentially more than those that jumped to mind.
HeroesCH Waddington, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, and, of course, Superman the hero of all heros. _____________________________________________________________________________ An idea or character is a perfectly acceptable as a hero to me. To be a real hero in the real world is tough and no one can be those heroes of your dreams. Which of course makes the real ones that much more dear.

   Mark's Blurbs
About me:
I love art, people, animals, nature, various plants, lots of insects - except the ones that bite you and live in your home uninvited, sleeping, eating, cooking (because it's a prelude to eating), and long showers. I hate ... nothing, but sometimes I'd like to. _______________________________________________________________________________ I love science because to love anything or anyone you have to truly know it or them. I find studying biology very topical to my life since my life is a manifestation of biology. I think physicists are wrong about the probabilistic nature of the universe, but I'm not really qualified to comment (though Einstein did too).
Who I'd like to meet:
Jimi Hendrix who died on my birthday. Guess it wasn't meant to be. _____________________________________________________________________________ Wouldn't mind meeting some cool people who are alive and kicking in NYC now. Particularly those who are spiritual or scientific. People who like getting into deep philosophical discussions regarding simple everyday occurences (which sometimes include dumb conversations about absolutely nothing). Those who like dancing (not ballroom). Anyone who has a car and likes escaping the city to go hiking. _____________________________________________________________________________ And George Bush so I can shake his hand, tell him he's doing a great job, and see if he really is stupid enough to not understand sarcasm. It would explain a lot about how he managed to develop such retarded opinions. _____________________________________________________________________________ (Ok Jimi died on my bday 5 years before I was born so it wasn't even a near miss.)

mark is officially one of the coolest guys on the planet. he is an amazing friend, true, compassionate, funny, and insightful. he is a great listener and has a wonderfully open mind. he can go from the science lab straight to free beer hour than for a toke and out to the club til 6am. he is not your typical scientist. 10 yrs and going and i still thank above for allowing me the opportunity to be so close to this cool cat.
