  • Bio

Mike Barnett (fiddle, lead/harmony vocals) a 21-year-old native of Nashville, Tennessee, has played with the Gordon Stone Band and toured nationally with the legendary Jesse McReynolds & the Virginia Boys, including appearances on the Grand Ole Opry. He was also a member of the New England-based folk/bluegrass group, Northern Lights, as well as Amy Gallatin's band 'Stillwaters', is a member of The Deadly Gentlemen (Greg Liszt project), and the well renouned banjoist, Tony Trischka. Mike is the youngest instructor ever to teach at the Fiddle School at Vanderbilt University (at age 15), and he put out his own CD, "Lost Indian", in 2004, followed by performing on the Gordon Stone album "Rhymes with Orange", in 2005. Mike has played on several CDs since these first two, including the Deadly Gentlemen's "Bastard Masterpiece" and "Carry Me to Home", Joe Walsh's "Saturday Night Waltz", and many others. Mike has won countless fiddle contest awards, including a top ten award in both the Grand Masters fiddle contest and the Weiser Idaho national fiddle championship. He won the 'musician award' at the ASTA string conference before attending Berklee College. In the last year and a half, Mike has joined up with The David Grisman Quintet to make it a Sextet and has been doing extensive touring with the group. This came about through meeting David's son Sam at Berklee college of music and playing music all the time. Crystal Plohman, Mike's first real mentor and Director of Vanderbilt's Fiddling Program at Blair School of Music, describes Mike as "one of the hottest, fastest rising musicians in bluegrass music". He has also made his first professional vocal appearance on the deadly gentlemen's "Carry Me to Home". Mike is currently a resident of Boston, MA and attends Berklee College of Music. .. ..
