  • The end of an era, the Galactica fleet reached Earth

    Current mood:excited

Wow, is all I can say.  Ive been a diehard fan of the orignianl Battlestar Galactica show and when the new miniseries came out in 2003 I got hooked on it, what a great concept to bring the old show to the 21st century and make it real.  It was seriously freaky, along the same line as terminator.
The series started up with season 1 in 2005 and ran a hole season, then half of season two came and like forever later the second have of season three trickled out.  Season 3 was split in half as well and Season 4 seemed like it came out in groups of episodes.  I really cant recall exactly but the entire series has been an edge of the seat rollercoaster ride that I lived for.  I have never been into a show that much.
A wrap up was not expected but it was done with style and very dramatically.  I have to say, Im not ready to start watching the series over again, because watching it evoked alot of emotion in me throught the entire series.  Im not ready to watch the whole thing through yet, but I am going to go back and watch some the best episodes again.  Some that have some really good space battles.  The human tragedy and drama is very dark, hey, its the end of humanity with 46 some odd thousand survivors that dwindles to 38,000 at the end.  That's pretty depressing if you think about it.  There really werent a ton of space battles in the series, not like the original that had one every episode, but there were some darn good huge battles.
The sad things are how many people died along the way that were in the show starting out.  Many main characters died off in just the last season.
I have to say, I was on the edge of my seat all night watching the two hour finale, and even as it was winding down tieing up the story slowly, and you kinda knew what was going to happen, it was still heart pounding from the massive battle and aftermath.
Then came the sadness of loss.  The show is over, it WAS the most AWESOME show on TV, and its over, it was like watching a friend die, because you know these people, seen them at the weekest points of thier lives and watched them triump and carry on whith no hope at all.   I was a diehard trekky and still am to a point, but I did not feel this way when the last episode "All Good things" of Star Trek the Next Generation aired.
Well, its late, its been over for an hour now and I think Ive calmed down enough to go to bed, Im tired but still hyped up.
All you other BSG fans out there, life can go on in reruns on syndication!  Only 4 seasons and dang they made a hell of a story.
  • Miramar Air show

So, finally getting back into my Military Vehicle group, I broke down all the commo gear on the M37 Dodge and secured it for movement.  I think I had to break the tires loose from the driveway since I havent driven it for about 2 months.  I have however started it and warmed it up several times and adjusted the valves.

I got rolling early and made it to the Camp Elliot gate and made my way through security for my proctology exam by the Marine PMO on my way to the flight line.  I met up with about half of my group at the secuity check point so we all convoyed to our display spot by hanger 2.  Seeing a bunch of old MVs convoying these days is quite impressive.

It was a good show. I ran into some people that knew me and some friends of friends.  One guy, a Ham operator figured out who I was from listening in to our Military radio collector net once a week.   My First Seargent and another soldier from my unit stopped by to see me and my group.

The Blue Angels performed a low show without any of the high flying acrobatics due to low cloud cover.

  • Dodge army truck back, finally

Well, the body shop finished my truck just in time for summer.  I got it back and it runs good still, I was worried since it more or less sat for 8 months.

The paint is glossyier than I like, or it should be, but Im gonna have to live with it.  At least it will last more than a few years, since military semi gloss fades quick.  I got my shelter back in it pretty quickly and fired up the radios and found my big power supply for them seems to have gone bad. Oh well. Ille get another one.

Before I put the shelter back in my bro and I headed out to the desert with it on that really hot weekend in june.  It was 106 degrees out there, and the truck didnt over heat, but I did get a little vapor locking. The fuel line gets so hot that the gas turns to vapor and the pump cant pump it.  This happened when I slowed down and had less air moving through the engine compartment, then the truck just kinda runs out of gas.  I had to wait about 20 minutes or so for it all to cool down before it would start again. This happened 3 times on the trip and I will have to take measures to stop it in the future.

Other than that the truck is right at home in my driveway with the 32foot antenna on top of it.  Just waiting for my lazy ass to paint the white stars and  US ARMY numbers on it again.

  • the dodge army truck

Well, I went by the body shop today to check on it.  Its close to being done. They will get most of it completed next week, then paint the rest of the truck,(Im paying for that so that it all matches). Then I have to repaint the number and letter stencils on it.  I should have it back for memorial day.
