Born in East London in 1975 into a non musical family Al was a very late developer when it came to singing. With no formal musical training the self-taught and self styled crooner was overwhelmed by the positive comments and praise he received from those lucky enough to witness his impromptu laid back performances and smooth vocal style at various social gatherings. Initially Al's performances were at the request of charities and good cause events but amidst rave reviews he went on to perform at many private parties and corporate events. Towards the end of 2006 Al took his first steps into a recording studio to produce a short demo, which in time with several additions became his debut album, 'Vegas Nights' a ten track CD inspired by the music of Sinatra Martin & Darin. Shortly after its recording 'Vegas Nights' gained recognition State side thanks to the wonders of MySpace. Many of the tracks were initially aired on Home Grown Radio, New Jersey. Impromptu performances in Germany & Hong Kong followed in 2007. Likened in many ways, sound and phrasing to both Sinatra and Martin on his 'Vegas Nights' recordings Al wanted to be more than just a tribute/sound-a-like. In 2008 he headed back to the studio to produce a new album with an altogether different feel and vocal sound. Al chose many 'forgotten songs' in order to tell a story and explore his own vocal style and produced 'As The Curtain Falls'. The vocal style and sounds demonstrated on this album have since been described as having a very British crooning feel likened to Jimmy Young with the warmth of Matt Monro and Val Doonican. Al's unassuming, modest persona and smooth, heart warming sound has now found him a place in the hearts of an ever increasing band of admirers. His album is available to listen to here at MySpace or to purchase at his recently launched website www.aldrayson.com. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ************************************** STOP PRESS ************************************** AL IS CURRENTLY LOOKING TO FORM OR JOIN UP WITH A SWING/JAZZ BAND...BIG OR SMALL. Influences
Al's influences come from that timeless era of swing! His biggest influences are Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Matt Munroe and Andy Williams, Harry Connick Jr, Michael Buble, Jamie Cullam..........and more recently Billy Michaels! .... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .......... ...... .......... -
Sounds Like
Intially Al was heavily influenced by the phrasing of Frank Sinatra with smooth effortless vocals likend to that of Dean Martin. This was very apparent in his earlier recordings (Vegas Nights). Al wanted to develope his own identity and unique sound and having done so has been described as having a very distinct British feel to his crooning, likened to Jimmy Young with the warmth of Val Doonican and Matt Munroe. Al would like to think he takes a bit of the best attributes from all the great crooners to deliver a unique laid back style all of his own as displayed in his latest recordings (As The Curtain Falls). ........ ........
