Interests

  • General

Music, art, fine foods, and good beer. How to be a forgiving spiritual Christian in a unforgiving material world.
  • Music

Too many influences to name. I like all styles and have written and performed styles ranging from classical to punk, bluegrass to salsa-merengue, jazz to coverbandpop. I have been in the music business since 1972 and it has been my primary source of income since 1975.
  • Movies

I am all over the place here as well. I prefer well written and acted thought provoking socially relevant drama, but I still laugh like an idiot at the Three Stooges and enjoy musicals like Chicago and Moulin Rouge (tremendous arranging).
  • Television

  • Books

The Pig That Wanted to Be Eaten, A Confederacy of Dunces, The Loved One, The Bible, and anything (and everything) ever written by John Irving, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Joseph Conrad, Kurt Vonnegut and Herman Hesse.
  • Heroes

Beethoven, Igor Stravinsky, Bird, Jesus Christ, Dietrich Bonheoffer, Charles Ives, Clarence Darrow, Martin Luther, Martin Luther King, Socrates, Jon Huss, etc.

Blurbs

About me:

I am Marty, 52 year old, grey haired (what’s, left of it) keyboardist/vocalist for the Christ Central Church (www.christcentralchurch.com) Band otherwise known as C3B, the Fabulous Kays (www.kaysband.com) a corporate/wedding band of note, as well as a new project Musaic, an eclectic funky jazz/R&B act. I live in Charlotte, NC where my family has long time roots going back to the 1600s (I have seen the original land grant papers). I grew up in the military, a Navy Officers brat so I did not live here as a child. My formal education is not in music, but in chemistry (BS from UNCC), nonetheless I make a comfortable living playing music. I have studied music independently and from several different teachers through the years and am an active composer of gospel, pop, jazz, R&B, and classical pieces which I will make available as I complete this site. I will be coming back to this later to add links and stuff.

Who I'd like to meet:

Other musicians and artists seeking to create while still making a living in their chosen discipline. Armchair philosophers, math/science and computer geeks are also welcome. Beer aficionados and movie critics are cool as long as they are not bombastic snobs. No soapbox orators or conspiracy theorists please.
